Call the Meeting to Order

M. Davis called a meeting of the Academic Excellence Committee of KIPP Memphis Public Schools to order on Monday May 23, 2022 at 5:30 PM.

Approve Minutes

R. Gibbs made a motion to approve the minutes from Academic Excellence Committee Meeting on 04-11-22.
H. Coleman seconded the motion.
The committee VOTED to approve the motion.

II. Academic Excellence Presentation

A.

iReady Diagnostic Assessment

Chief Brooks gave an overview of the following:

  • iReady Diagnostic Assessment that ended on Monday, May 23, 2022.  She presented the assessment results through Friday, May 20, 2022 for KMAE, KMAM, KMCE, KMCH, and KMCM.   The assessments were for Reading and Math.
  • TN Ready Participation Overview
    • TN Ready Participation Percentages for KMCE, KMAE, KMCM, KMAM, KMCH which included Reading, Math, Science and Social Studies
  • 2022-2023 Academic Programming
    • Academic Program Focus
      • KIPP Memphis will use aligned instructional tools to ensure a coherent academic program.
      • The Managing Director of Teaching & Learning will support the PLC and Instructional Coaches regarding norming and early literacy
      • The Academics Team will work with the Data & Innovation Team to create protocols that all schools will use.
    • Textbooks:  KIPP will purchase books for all K-12 grade KIPPsters in an effort to enhance their learning experience.
    • Promethean Boards:  KIPP will purchase Promethean Boards to enhance the learning experience of our KIPPsters.
  • KIPP Forward Highlights - Match / Class of 2022
    • Total Number of KMCH Graduates - 102
      • BA (4yr) 51%, AA (2yr) 17%, Military 7%, CTE 7%
    • Scholarships Awards:  Hope Lottery Scholarship/TN Aspire, TN Access, TN Promise, College & University with a Grand Total of $5,090,657.
    • Valedictorian - Ashjanae Payton (Million Dollar KIPPster) will attend Xavier University
    • Inaugural KIPP Memphis Board Scholarship Recipient - Sheri Brooks-Stewart.  She will attend the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, A KIPP Partner College.

III. Committee Questions

The floor opened up for the Committee to ask questions in reference to the presentation.

Board Member Dawson:  How is KIPP doing in hiring High School Teachers?

  • CEO Burt gave an update on where KIPP stands on hiring for each school.

 

IV. CEO Comments

A.

CEO Burt gave an overview of upcoming Professional Development for KMPS.

Professional Development for KMPS.

  • Leadership Academy Dinner:  June 13th from 4 pm - 6:30 pm
  • Leadership Retreat:  June 14 - 16, 2022
  • State of KIPP (All Staff Report):  July 25, 2022 @ Holiday Inn University
  • School Base PD:  August 1 - 5, 2022
  • 20 Year Anniversary

V. Academic Excellence Chairperson Comments

A.

Committee Chair Davis gave an overall overiew of the upcoming school year.

Committee Chair thanked KIPP for everything that they are doing.  Everyone's new, and at this point, you've dug in.  KIPP staff has really rallied around our children and I'm just really hopeful about the future.  She asked the KIPP Staff to take a moment after Friday to just exhale a little bit and pat yourself on the back, because what a way to start KIPPs 20th year.
