Call the Meeting to Order

M. Davis called a meeting of the Academic Excellence Committee of KIPP Memphis Public Schools to order on Tuesday Feb 8, 2022 at 5:01 PM.

Approve Minutes

L. Sweet made a motion to approve the minutes from Academic Excellence Committee Meeting on 11-10-21.
S. Isabell seconded the motion.
The committee VOTED to approve the motion.

II. ENCASE and iReady Performance Presentation

A.

CASE Winter Assessment

Overview of the following:

  • CASE Winter Assessment for KMCE | KMAE | KMCM | KMCH | KMAM
  • Annual Measurable Outcome overview of KMCE | KMAE | KMCM | KMCH | KMAM
  • iReady Regional Performance - Reading and Math.  A comprehensive assessment and instructional program that provides teachers and students the resources they need to close the achievement gap.

III. Current Priorities and Action Plans

A.

Culture and Attendance

  • Attendance Actions overview for the Average Daily Attendance, Enrollment and Chronic Absence 
  • After School Tutoring for Students
  • Bi-monthly Saturday School Sessions
  • Expansion of Advanced Coursework
    • KIPP Memphis will partner with Bethel University to offer Dual Enrollment courses for the 11th and 12th-grade students in Fall 2022
  • Dual Enrollment & Statewide Dual Credit for School Year 2022-23

KIPP Forward Highlights

  • KIPP Forward Bright Spots:  100% of KMCH seniors have submitted the TN Promise Scholarship application and FAFSA.

KIPP Forward Actions 

  • A transcript analysis was conducted for all Juniors and Seniors to ensure students are on track for on-time graduation.

Bright Spots

  • Denia Gooden, KMCH Class of 2022, has been accepted into over 21 colleges and universities
  • Charlena Bryant, a student at Tennessee State University, will graduate Class of 2024
  • Detario Yancey, KIPP Class of 2018 valedictorian  and a student at Middle Tennessee State University, will graduate Class of 2022

CEO Burt gave an overview of the Benchmark Assessment and iReady Data.

V. Committee Questions

A.

The floor opened up for questions referencing the presentation.

KIPP CEO and Staff commented/answered the following questions.

 

  • Dual enrollment and how many students are participating?
  • Are there any incentives for teachers?
  • What are KIPP's thoughts on Financial Aid?
  • Are we seeing an increase in attendance for the High Flyers calls?

 

VI. Academic Excellence Chairperson Comments

A.

Overview of the presentation.

In terms of the presentation and the committee, it feels good to have so many folks that are like-minded and are committed to the KIPP Mission. So thank you very much, Dr. Burt, for bringing these great people on and for all of the information.
