Call the Meeting to Order

J. Worles called a meeting of the Operations/Facilities Committee of KIPP Memphis Public Schools to order on Thursday May 7, 2026 at 5:05 PM.

The agenda was reviewed and approved with no changes.

Approve Minutes

N. Gatson made a motion to approve the minutes from KIPP Operations/Facilities Committee Meeting on 04-16-26.
A. Anderson seconded the motion.
The committee VOTED unanimously to approve the motion.

II. Operations/Facilities

A.

2025-26 Attendance / Chronic Absenteeism Update

Chief Phillips presented a YOY update on attendance for all schools as follows:

  • Chronic absenteeism improved year over year across all three schools by an average of 3%, with the high school leading the region with a 10-point improvement.
  •  KIPP Memphis Public Schools is outperforming the KIPP Foundation anchor metric of 42% and remains on track to meet the goal.

B.

2026-27 Recruitment / Enrollment Update

Chief Phillips presented an update and overview of the following:

  • As of May 7, 2026, the total enrollment is 972 students, including 856 returning students and 116 new students which is approximately 62.3% to registration goal.
  • May 2026:  Decision Day for Seniors / Mission Transition - Next Grade / Transition Previews
    • All three schools will participate in grade-level transition activities, allowing students to experience their next grade level for the upcoming school year. This year, pre-K students from local daycare centers were also invited to join kindergarten classrooms as part of the transition experience.

  • 5/12:  Star Academy 8th Grade Graduation
  • 5/13:  Pre-K Transition Day (Henry campus)
  • 5/13:  KMPS Transition Day (Henry & Howell campuses)
  • 5/13:  Believe Memphis Academy Kindergarten Graduation
  • 5/20:  Believe Memphis Families Visit KMCE/CM  

C.

Facilities Update

Chief Phillips presented an update of the following projects.

  • 2025-26 Charter School Facilities Grant Projects
    • Henry Bottle Filler Water Fountain Replacements - Complete
    • Howell Bottle Filler Water Fountain Replacements - Complete
  • KIPP Cordova Collegiate Elementary (KCCE) School Property Status
    • KIPP Cordova Collegiate Elementary (KCCE) renovation financing is expected to close on May 29, 2026, with renovations scheduled from June 1, 2026 through February 26, 2027, ahead of the planned school opening in August 2027.

Committee Chair Worles expressed appreciation for the continued positive progress across KIPP Memphis Public Schools and thanked the team for providing detailed updates, while offering continued support for the work ahead.
