A. Allen called a meeting of the board of directors of Green Dot Public Schools Tennessee to order on Thursday Jan 19, 2023 at 4:03 PM.

Marysa Utley, Chief of Staff highlighted Wooddale Middle School and the student council on their recent visit from the MSCS Board Members.

II. Consent Agenda

A.

Minutes from December 8, 2022, Board of Directors meeting

Due to not meeting quorum, voting did not take place during the meeting. 

III. Strategic Priorities Updates

A.

Strategic Priority Updates

Jocquell Rodgers, Executive Director of GDPST gave the board members an update on the progress of Fairley High School in regard to reauthorization with MSCS. 

 

Executive Director Rodgers pointed out that the application for reauthorization is due on February 1, 2023. 

B.

College-Ready Learners: Academics Update

Jasmine Jackson, Director of Academics discussed the students' Fall I-Ready data. She highlighted areas of strength and areas of improvement. 

 

Director Jackson also presented the board with next steps to support with improving student performance on I-Ready testing. 

 

  • Analyze data trends to determine target students and skill focus for small group instruction.
  • Revamp individual school assessment investment plans.
    • Immediate Next Steps: Revisit student buy-in, testing environment, and incentives at each individual school. Identify any components that may have impacted data (staff changes, changes in procedures, attendance, etc.)
    • Long Term-Evaluate the testing calendar to potentially combat attendance issues. 


 

C.

Administrator Supports

Christina Austin, Chief of Schools presented the board with key coaching techniques that she uses with administrators to improve student achievement and school performance. 

 

She highlighted having administrators to review quarterly goals progress weekly via the Leaders Lesson Plan helps school leaders to remain data driven. 

 

She also discussed having leaders to regularly reflect on their calendar to ensure their priorities were aligned with the strategic priorities of GDPST.

Parent and Community Engagement

Marysa Utley, Chief of Staff presented the board with a community engagement update in regard to the reauthorization of Fairley High School. 

 

She stated that Fairley High School has received the following on 2023 Stakeholder Feedback for Fairley Re-Authorization:

Community Stakeholders 

96%

 

 

Additionally, there was a community engagement event taking place at 5pm on January 19, 2023, in the Fairley High School cafeteria. 

 

Chief Utley requested the following next steps from the board members: 

  • Be vocal about Fairley 
  • Talk to Board Members 
  • Join on us on Vote Day (TBD)
  • Write Letters of Support 

 


 

E.

Development Updates

Cecilia Walker with the Development Team presented the board with updates on development and donations. 

 

Mrs. Walker highlighted GDPST for winning the following grants: 

 

Government:

  • Won $2,065,500 21st Century Community Learning Center (HIL, KIR, WDL)
  • Won $2,151,844 Charter School Facilities (Pending Bluff City Finalization) 
  • Upcoming: $4M application to the TDOE Innovative School Models grant program (March)  –  will support CTE pathways at the high schools & STEM programs at the middle schools.

 

Mrs. Walker also asked for the boards support with the All-Star Campaign and to continue to make introductions to potential donors in the community.
