ELA data unpacking

OG = What is going well: Paloma has been going well; tracker for story problems and written responses; 2 point reponses rubric from state exam- have not launched yet but she is working on it with DTLs for Grades 3-5; what well is student work study, seeing what they are doing and not doing; what is challenging for students and for teachers; very informative and we are spotting patterns  Challenge: amplify is so much to do so they must pick and choose, 90 minute blocks; Truncate each component instead of leaving a section out; challenging to go through all of it; very different needs for 4th & 5th (partners) Trying to get partners to support 4th grade teachers

Action Steps: leadership goal tracker; observations- meeting with teachers and create next steps- 4th- need students to be more independent; less scaffolding, knowing the difference between a skill and an objective; adding too much in 4th grade that feel disjointed; Can Paloma help with going through the lessons and model how to get everything in that amount of time? Video tape- amplify vs what Paloma did

DM K-1

Going Well- on pace; K is shifting from PA-Ph and word reading; starting to target students who have already made growth; identifying who gets RR or Sound Partners; My Path is off for 1st grade- started adjusting my path that matches what students need; good with organization of the lesson; 1 teacher is getting better with the objective

Challenges -knowledge assessments thumbs up and down; thinking about using read works

Action Steps

YB

Going Well- 3rd grade is starting well- almost ½ of them is starting in the green, a partner teacher (Jones) is on the team, already started small groups and targeted activities; Jones already worked with Lavinia so she has already started modifying exit tickets, rubric scoring, now we are moving towards uploading on the tracker to see trends

Challenges -Ms. Torres will be out- Dr. Babb will try to be masterful here; lean in on the partner

Action Steps- 2nd grade only has 50min blocks not including centers, Plan for Skills that involves word work, grammar, comprehension; Work to pull parts to maximize time; Norming ELA; TAs are supporting

Overall-

*Open ended responses (2nd doing more of) 3rd-5th

*School wide tracker- thinking about how to support K-1, still in progress (maybe 2 as well)

*Jenny shared a noticing about data across the years…the lower loops tend to retain less info after summer..is it age? Is it that veteran teachers are in the higher loops? Is it something different? She will take a deeper dive to see if it’s in one domain; how might this impact our summer planning?

*Sheila - how do we increase time that kids spend independently reading?

Next meeting:

Wednesday, Dec 11

Focus will be on Math

Focus in January → will have data on ELA writing rubrics and perhaps a focus for K-2 (work with Paloma)
