II. Areas of Growth from Dec meeting
A.
From Dec. meeting
Other successes to highlight:
-2nd grade: really taking ownership of the story tracker
-Ms. K - 53% of students are above grade level in mclass
-teachers are using their SMART goals during their observations to improve their pedagogical practice
-teacher autonomy over the selection of story problems
Concerns that they'd like to mention:
1. Let's not forget about ELA - accountability should be here too; starting in next month's meeting, we will talk through ELA too
2. Mays - while there is an improvement with story problems, they are not seeing the growth in place value/number sense; teachers have decided to switch and move this unit sooner.
Next meeting: Tuesday, February 13th at 3:00 pm.
Dr. Babb:
3rd grade - Student-led goals: Paloma developed a form with a tracker for students to track their goals; have also started to incentivize them for reaching those goals (student activities such as karoake, etc)
Ms. Gibson -
4th and 5th grade - working on student transference - using their strategies from small group into their independent work; test prep/incentivize - to be more independent; students default to pictures unless they get pushed by teachers;
Test prep committee - more positive culture around test prep and buy-in from students, teachers, and parents; just started; goals with expectations are set for the week; (goals are based on character, perseverance, meticulousness, stamina); next committee meeting will focus on defining the student moves - what are the ways are showing those 4 buckets);
Mays - shout-out to Ms. Torres (associate teacher on the team) who is leading the math meetings with the structure laid out by Paloma/Diamond; teachers are coming with anticipated responses; in 1st grade - they are working on representation - how to record and represent their thinking on paper.
Another shout-out to Ms. V --> habits of discussion; student discourse is strong; they will record this as a way for teachers to observe and discuss
