L. Silva led a data share focused on current TNAACS enrollment data and the results of the NYC ELA and math exams for grades three through five.
She reported that as of August 20th, the class lists show a potential enrollment of 254 students. She shared that this number includes students who are registration in process, completed registrations and students who are currently enrolled who have indicated they will be returning to TNAACS for the 2026/2027 school year. This figure does not include student discharges. She shared that Kori Tatum was currently working on calling all families currently registration in progress to offer them support to complete their registrations. TNAACS is currently budgeting for 262 students.
Lisa then shared "flagged discharges" and shared it is typical to see this kind of movement enrollment in August. K. Tatum is in the process of calling every discharge to determine if they are actually leaving TNAACS and if so to gain. insight as to why with the goal of potentially addressing their concerns so they stay at the school. TNAACS does have several students who are either moving out of state or out of the country. In addition several SPED students are moving to schools who have a 12:1:1 setting, which is more appropriate for their needs.
Lisa then discussed the canvassing work being done by Underdog Strategies. We have seen 58 leads but only one conversion. Currently three tours are confirmed and three more are scheduled with potential families based on these leads. In the past we have seen an 8 to 10 percent conversion rate with these leads.
The school has purchased Vanguard postcard mailers to be sent out to surrounding aipcodes to families of potential students. Lisa shared that overall applications are down for July and August. Overall applications were low this summer.
Lisa Silva then moved on to state exam data and a comparison of State Exam data and iReady data. Once again TNAACS exceeded NYS and CSD 18 exam scores:
As part of our charter we are required to outperform NYS and our district of location. While NYS does not review our performance vs. NYC, we use this data for marketing:
In ELA all TNAACS grades exceeded the state's performance. In math 4th and 3rd grade exceeded the state by double digits. TNAACS did not exceed the state in 5th grade math scores. This is the second year in a row this student cohort did not out perform the state in math.
Lisa then moved to a comparison of TNAACS iReady scores and NYS exam scores. Shew shared that, particularly in math, there should be an alignment i. the performance on both exams, within 10%. This is what traditionally makes iReady a strong predictor of NYS math exam performance. We looked at the data by student cohorts and saw for the most part, year over year, performance in math was within the 10% range. This was not true for our students in 5th grade last year, whose iReady performance gap was larger than 10%, with students performing significantly higher on iReady than the state exam. The next step will be to take a deeper dive into more cohorts.
