Call the Meeting to Order

K. Mangual called a meeting of the board of trustees of Inwood Academy for Leadership Charter School to order on Tuesday Jan 16, 2024 at 7:05 PM.

C.

Approve Minutes

J. Patrick made a motion to approve the minutes from December Board of Trustees Meeting on 12-19-23.
S. Mlynar seconded the motion.
The board VOTED to approve the motion.

II. Board Committee Reports

A.

CEO Report

Tatiana Mahoney presented the FACE presentation:

  • FACE continues to ensure that parents and families feel empowered enough to feel like they belong to the IAL community 
    • It has been proven that students with engaged families get higher grades, tests scores, and enroll in high level academic programs.
  • FACE is rooted in the 3 C's: Community focus, Character development, & College preparedness 
    • FACE ensures this is focused on through their roots and recipes contest, multiple community events with the NYS Department of Education commissioner, events with the Hispanic Federation and especially through community awards. 
      • Some other events FACE offers are Hike the heights, Winter of Soul (in celebration of Black History Month)
  • FACE offers whatsapp groups, weekly new bulletins, giveaways, monthly coffee hours, mental health advocacy days, and family council meetings to all families that need more help in supporting their child.  
    • Through all these methods, FACE ensures families and students have their voices heard in every room they enter. 

 

K. Dresner, potential new board member, was introduced to the board and interviewed by all members in attendance. 

 

 

M. Rosenthal made a motion to to accept the nomination of Karen Drezner to join the Board of Trustees of Inwood Academy.
K. Mangual seconded the motion.
The board VOTED unanimously to approve the motion.

B.

Facilities and Finance Report

Middle School 

  • The middle school lease was executed by Friends of Inwood Academy; this includes the Annex 
  • The term is 10 years
