Call the Meeting to Order

M. Rosenthal called a meeting of the board of trustees of Inwood Academy for Leadership Charter School to order on Tuesday Feb 28, 2023 at 7:04 PM.

Approve Minutes

M. Rosenthal made a motion to approve the minutes from January Board of Trustees Meeting on 01-17-23.
K. Mangual seconded the motion.
The board VOTED to approve the motion.

II. Board Committee Reports

A.

CEO Report

The CEO and CSO shared the updates on the HRS Level 1 Certification process and reviewed the outline of all steps with the board. 

  • CSO reported that throughout March we will be gathering quick data to show us whether or not we are progressing in the different leading indicators. 

B.

Academic Committee Report/Alumni Report

Lyann Arias and Hazel Pina shared the updates on the progress of IAL alumni.

  • There is a 40% increase in students applying to post-secondary institutions.
  • 85% of graduates attended school the Fall semester per our National Clearinghouse Data as compared to 64% in 2021.
  • So far Class of 2023 has been accepted into 98 schools. 
  • The Alumni team implemented exit interview strategies to ensure a smooth transition into each student's respective post-secondary plan.

HR Committee

The CEO shared the updates on the hiring process of the new Elementary School and Middle School directors.

D.

Fundraising, Finance and Facilities

  • It's lottery season. 
    • We are accepting applications for all grades, 5 through 12, with the largest of seats opening in fifth grade. We usually accept about 90 seats in the fifth grades
    • We have a lower application number than we have had in the past, but working with our team to increase numbers by lottery date 
    • Auditors remain impressed with our current enrollment numbers as they have seen lower enrollment throughout the city 
  • Permanent Spacing
    • Still in conversations with 4650 Broadway- Arden Group
    • In December, they were able to secure financing for the residential space, but not for the community space; process still ongoing.
