Call the Meeting to Order

N. Flint called a meeting of the Academic Excellence Committee of Liberty Tech Charter School to order on Thursday Oct 8, 2026 at 8:28 AM.

II. Project Based Learning

A.

Charter Goal: Proficient Classrooms

Classroom rubric for proficient classrooms is still in progress.  Ready to do informal observations with it and share with teachers.  And working in PLC's on the PBL work.  Should get full access to the online resources purchased.

Teachers will be able to provide feedback on the rubrick.  Also created a "simple" version that is shorter and easier to read through.

Discussed the feedback that teachers will get from the rubrick and how that should and shouldn't work to ensure that teachers get appropriate and positive feedback to help them all improve.  Also looking at doing it in steps instead of all at the same time.

B.

Maverick Project Showcase (MPS)

Still working with all grade levels and through PLCs.

C.

Staff Training

III. Charter Goal: Student Led Conferences

A.

Participation Rates

First one will be January 12th (4th-5th) at 8:10-8:40am.  13th MS Team A.  14th is MS Team B.

Have stuff to push to the teachers to help assist them in the process.

B.

Classroom Expansion

IV. Other Items

A.

Overnight Field Trips

Mr. Eller presented the Burton and Wahsega 4-H field trips.  Working with Ms. Henkel and Ms. Fangmeyer.  Relates to life sciences and historical content related to what his happening in the classroom.  Wahsega will be the culmination of the classroom PBL experience this year so it's getting directly planned and integrated.

Cost is $10 higher this year per student at $183 for Burton not including transportation.  Wahsega is $160.  Did find a local bus company that can do the trip for cheaper than the ones we have used before.

Trends is 20-25 students per trip.  About 10-15 children wouldn't be going on the trip with these trends.  2 teachers and 1 administrator would go with parents and nurse Lorie.  Have 40 spots reserved for each.

Reasons some friends haven't gone before is because the parents are hesitant to send their kid on an overnight trip without them being able to go as well.

Idea for Development as part of Foundation to work to fundraise for these trips each year.

B.

Hawthorne Gifted Evaluation Scale

Mr. Eller presented the proposed transition for gifted evaluation.  The new assessment Hawthrone would replace the current Renzulli.  This is a replacement for the Motivation pillar of gifted (Mental ability, achievement, and creativity remain).

56 current gifted students and ~30 that are higher learners but not over the line of gifted and this new scale would help those students get over the line.

It's a platform that the students will get into the tool to show their motivation instead of the teacher assessing it.
