II. Project Based Learning

A.

Charter Goal: Proficient Classrooms

New PBL tool developed, in progress.  Getting reviewed by a team.  Should help measure when the PBL is getting done and meeting the criteria of Gold standard from PBL Works.  Would give this to teachers so they know what is getting measured.  Help give consistency.

Not proceeding with the PBL contractor as it wasn’t providing value.  Will still work with PBL Works though throughout the year.

September 22nd PBL Team meeting where this will be presented and then will go to the teachers.  Then will measure this year to get a baseline.  Then work with the teachers to help them figure out what they need, how it can help, etc.  For example, posting the Driving Question posted in each classroom so it can be referenced anytime.  talking about the other standards that we should have in place.

Will be used as an informal evaluation, not an official one so it won’t affect their performance review in any way.  It’s just to help the school measure where we are today and then help to keep them improving over time.

B.

Maverick Project Showcase (MPS)

C.

Staff Training

Still in communiaction with PBL Works/Houston to figure out the track.

III. Academic Excellence

A.

Data Review

Will have Nicole Freeman come next month to review as she is in the process of looking over everything and making a plan.

For MAP - at a school level we are around 60% reading and 54% in math.  Nash to work to support the Math teachers/instruction more this year given his background.

B.

General Academic Assistance

C.

Teacher Certifications

Focus on gifted and potentially autism/sped certifications.  Math endorsement could also be a good one to focus on.  Will work on getting a count for each area and thenw ork on the goal for the school.

IV. Charter Goal: Student Led Conferences

A.

Participation Rates

Planning process has started.  Example from prior year from a student, looking at data, etc. so looking for different ways for kids to document, take ownership, etc.  Leader In Me - getting information as this would help cover this area, plus things like house system.

Need to identify dates - first one wouldn’t be until January after the first round of MAP testing.

B.

Classroom Expansion

V. Other Items

Bellwether

SCSC paid consultant to support charter expansion/replication.  Kickoff meeting happened and looking to build a team which will be Gina and Veronica as well.  Came and did a visit last week to better understand the school.  Will continue to meet throughout this calendar year.
