Elizabeth Callison:
OPA is partnering with the Utah Parent Center as part of a charter school coalition.  The Utah Parent Center will be hiring a parent consultant who will work with several charter schools to support parents of students in special education in understanding the special education process, the rights and responsibilities of parents and students, and act as an advocate for parents and mediator in case disputes should arise.
This contract will help us to improve our Parent Engagement, which was one of the areas where the state feels OPA needed to improve.  As a part of this contract, I have asked the our parent consultant help promote completion and return of the Parent Engagement survey.  Out of 102 parent surveys sent out in the 2017/2018 school year, only 7 were returned.  Parents of special education students will be receiving this survey from the state once again in the spring.
