Call the Meeting to Order
B. Albano called a meeting of the board of directors of Cold Spring School to order on Wednesday Jan 16, 2019 at 5:30 PM.
A regular meeting of the Cold Spring School (CSS) Board was held on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 in the media center at the school. Presiding officer was Mr. Bob Albano, Board Chair.
Members present were: Bob Albano, Cheryl Hertzer, Kelly Payne and JR Renbarger.
Members absent were: Steve Downing and Tonya Tudor.
COO Carrie Bruns, CSS Principal Cody Stipes and CSS Assistant Principal AJ Barcome attended the meeting.
Mr. Brian Anderson from Options in Education Foundation attended to give the financial report.
Mrs. Christine Wise, community member and parent, also attended. Mrs. Wise commented on the current school calendar and the benefits to her family of a long winter break and of having summer break during the entire months of June and July.

Motion to approve the minutes from Board Meeting on 11-28-18.
The motion was approved with 5 ayes and no nays.
II. FINANCIAL REPORT
A.
Monthly Report
Mr. Brian Anderson from Options in Education Foundation gave the financial report, including remarks on the audit report, the statement of financial position as of December 31, 2018 and Budget versus Actual for July 2018 through December 2018. Mr. Anderson recommended that the in-kind revenue adjustment be made at the end of the year due to the difficulty of confirming the amount of funds that would be disbursed by IPS. Mr. Anderson noted that the December 31 statement showed that Cold Spring School was on track with spending.
Mr. Bob Albano requested that Mrs. Bruns and Mr. Anderson provide monthly grant reports on the Fairbanks and Walton Family Foundation grants.
After Board review of the financial document, Mr. Albano requested that Mr. Anderson provide updated versions of the financial report documents.

III. NEW BUSINESS
A.
2019-2020 School Year Calendar
Mrs. Carrie Bruns provided copies of two school calendar options for the 2018-2019 school year to the Board. She reported that staff were evenly split on which calendar they preferred. The administrative team recommended option A.
At 6:05pm Mr. Brian Anderson left the meeting.
Motion to adopt calendar option A as recommended by the administrative team.
The motion passed with 5 ayes and no nays.
B.
Chief Operating Officer Report
Mrs. Bruns gave the COO report to the Board, including information on the audit report that was sent to IPS. The report is due annually in January.
Mr. Bob Albano directed Mrs. Bruns to request acknowledgement from IPS that they have received and reviewed the audit report.
Mrs. Bruns explained that IPS had recalled about $244,000 fro the Cold Spring School account. She received notification that 60% of that amount would be returned to the school. Although Cold Spring School teachers are not employed by IPS, they received emails from IPS notifying them that they would receive a salary increase. The new SBA (Student Based Allocation) formula will result in lower funding to Cold Spring School.
Mrs. Bruns and the administrative team have been exploring middle school and charter school options.
Mr. Albano requested that the administrative team prepare information about three options for the future of the school for the February 2019 meeting.
Mr. Albano directed Mrs .Bruns and the administrative team to prepare a recommendation for action at the February 20, 2019 meeting about whether and how to increase Cold Spring School teacher salaries in order to keep pace with IPS teacher salaries.
C.
Principal Report
Mr. Cody Stipes provided the Principal's Report, including the following information:
- The application for designating Cold Spring School for STEM certification has been submitted.
- The administrative team presented at the STEM conference.
- The school held a successful Robotics tournament in December 2018.
- NWEA scores showed growth.
- Family Nights will be held in January and March with the assistance of Marian University.
- Cold Spring School will offer Family Tours and participate in Showcase of Schools.
- An enrollment update showed that Cold Spring School is likely to fill all spots.
- Announcements about upcoming event
- A technology update was provided
- The robotics teams are doing well
- Junior Robotics is off and running. Mr. Stipes invited the Board members to observe the students who were participating in Junior Robotics after the meeting.

Adjourn Meeting
There being no further business to be transacted, and upon motion duly made, seconded and approved, the meeting was adjourned at 7:04 PM.
