Founded in 1996
Serving Students in Grades 5 - 12

We seek to sustain an educational community where an emphasis on academic excellence is complemented by our concern for each learner’s personal growth and intellectual, aesthetic, and psychological development. The curriculum is developmentally responsive – actively engaging students in learning skills in context, integrative – directing students to connect learning to daily lives, and exploratory – enabling students to discover their abilities, interests, learning styles, and ways that they can make contributions to society.

Information on procedures for public comment can be found on our Governance Page.  (Click Here)

If anyone needs special assistance to participate in the public input session, every effort will be made to provide an appropriate accommodation. When requesting accommodations for public input, please allow no less than 1 business day notice prior to the scheduled meeting.

Specific issues about a particular student should only be addressed to the school’s Director of Student Services, rather than the Board of Directors.

All public comments will be taken under advisement by the Board, but will not elicit a written or spoken response. The names of persons providing public comment and a brief summary of topics or input will be included in the meeting minutes published. A response will be provided to the stakeholder within seven (7) days.

Call the Meeting to Order

A. Jordan called a meeting of the Special Task Committee of Seaside School, Inc to order on Wednesday May 21, 2025 at 4:00 PM.

II. Special Task

A.

SNS School Structure Discussion

The committee discussed the next steps in the school structure discussion.  The discussion included opinions on the removal and reasons to keep the 5th grade at SNS.  Reasons for removal included increasing class sizes in grades 6th - 8th to add additional Seaside students to the High School on an annual basis, to allow the 5th grade students to stay at Dune Lakes and Butler to be able to hold leadership roles as the older kids on campus, and to make room for additional students in each middle school class to allow more children to attend the school via the lottery. The reason for keeping the 5th grade included that our class testing scores have been outstanding,  our current teaching methods are developed around a 5th-8th-grade middle school, and the belief that the earlier we get students into SNS, the better they perform in later grades.  Lloyd commented that additional students moving from Seaside to Seacoast could go against our message that we have been presenting to legislators to add additional students to Seacoast to create further opportunity for Walton County students.

The next steps include evaluating preference data for middle school students.  Tom Miller will send preference data to the committee for review.  The next meeting will be established within a week.  It was requested that additional board members be asked to come to the next committee for additional opinions on the topic.

Adjourn Meeting

There being no further business to be transacted, and upon motion duly made, seconded and approved, the meeting was adjourned at 4:55 PM.

Respectfully Submitted,
