CEO Report to Board of Trustees

H. Darilek presented her CEO Report.

There are many upcoming events:  4th and 8th grade promotion ceremonies; a performance of "The Jungle Book"; High School Graduation (June 11); E.L. Haynes Family Day, which occurs on the same day as the Chris Kim Day of Service (Friday, June 3).

The All-Staff Celebration is also coming up. E.L. Haynes will be honoring staff who've been here 5+ years and 10+ years with ELH jackets with their names.

ELH is almost finished with PARCC assessments. The elementary school and high school are done, and the middle school is almost done. The PARCC assessments went smoothly. Thanks to the great job done by the Assistant Principals and LEA staff.

Haynes had its first all-LEA staff meeting. It was a good start with great feedback.

The Race and Equity Committee has its last formal meeting of the year, and will do planning for next year.

P. Hedlund presented very good news on ELH's Pre-K program. OSSE performed its annual citywide evaluation of Pre-K programs for DCPS and charter schools, looking at three criteria: Emotional Support, Classroom Organization, and Instructional Support. Haynes is doing exceptionally well. Among all the schools in the city (DCPS and charters), E.L. Haynes was 4th best or tied for 4th best for two of the criteria, and 6th best for the other. Overall, we are 4th best. This reflects dramatic improvement and progress in our Pre-K program from last year, when we were 54th out of 54 schools. The Pre-K score makes up 15% of the PMF.

H. Darilek presented on the Class of 2016. There has been excellent progress in service hours and also great academic progress in the path to graduation. Of our 57 seniors all but one graduates in June, and one graduates in August.
