A public meeting of the Student Achievement Committee of the Board of Trustees of Northwood Academy Charter School that was properly advertised pursuant to the Pennsylvania Sunshine Act was held on March 4, 2020 at 4621 Castor Avenue.

Call the Meeting to Order

K. Maddox called a meeting of the Academic Excellence Committee of Northwood Academy Charter School to order on Wednesday Mar 4, 2020 at 5:07 PM.

A.

Math Curriculum Status

The Math Committee scheduled visits to several schools to observe the instructional practices and implementation of various math curriculum programs. The visits consisted of the Principal, Assistant Principals, Teachers. After the first round of visits, the committee came to a preliminary decision to keep the current math curriculum at NACS and supplement with additional resources to fill the gap. The committee will work throughout the summer to plan and develop the scope and sequence for the 20-21 SY.

  • Bridges Math @ Wissahickon Charter School (2 Teachers)
  • Eureka Math @ St. Martin dePorres (2 Teachers)
  • Go Math with a Twist @ Antonia Pantoja Charter School (2 Teachers, Principal & Asst. Principals)

2nd Round Visits (To be scheduled)
  • Bridges Math and Into Math @ Centennial School District
  • Vision Math @ Philadelphia School District

III. New Business

A.

Parent Survey

Committee reviewed and discussed the 2020 Internal Parent Survey and determined the question related specifically to Special Ed needed expanding to include all academic programming. The nine question survey will be administered through Survey Monkey during Report Card Conferences. Chromebooks are being provided for parents to complete the survey. Administration will work through logistics for placement of the Chromebook carts.

  • Report Card Conferences 3/26-3/27
  • Committee meeting will be scheduled to review and discuss the results.

V. Jefferson made a motion to adjourn meeting.
M. Bly seconded the motion.
The committee VOTED unanimously to approve the motion.
There being no further business to be transacted, and upon motion duly made, seconded and approved, the meeting was adjourned at 5:59 PM.
