Executive Director Report: Update on New Hope Charter School
Herinder Pegany shared the State and Federal Programs Report presentation on funding sources. Title I, II, III, and III Immigrant budget projections for 23-24 were shared. Details were provided on how the funds will be used, such as tutoring and extended day intervention, STEAM enrichment, family engagement, professional learning/staff development days, new teacher induction, bilingual materials and outreach.
If approved to submit the 2023-24 NHCS Consolidated Application for Federal Funding, Title IV funds would be used for health education, MTSS and PBIS to mitigate behavior concerns, technology applications, and social-emotional learning.
Title initiatives support our recently approved LCAP goals.
Jeff Kreiser arrived at 5:07 pm.
Herinder shared the 2023 Academic Calendar for NHCS. For students, it begins a week earlier than elementary in Robla SD on August 7 (179 days of instruction, 175 minimum requirement). Students get their orientation and diagnostic assessments will be administered. Teachers begin professional learning on August 1. Parent orientation is August 1. On some weeks of breaks, students are invited to take benchmark/intervention assessments. Teachers had advocated for a calendar that provided for more intervention throughout the year.
We are required to provide 20 days of extended day learning opportunities. Instead of a block only in summer, there will be extended days offered in fall, spring, and summer.
On the same sheet shared with the Board, another tab shows the Instructional Minutes by month, showing overall minutes for the year exceeding the minimum.
