In March 2025, the Board approved Excel’s updated graduation requirements, including a local competency determination requiring:​

  • MCAS scores of 469+ in ELA and Math, 470 in Science​
  • Passing grades in key standards-aligned high school courses​

While this pathway works for nearly all students, a small number cannot meet these expectations due to significant cognitive disabilities or MLL circumstances​.

 

The Alternative Graduation Pathway offers a rigorous and equitable option for these students, upholding high academic standards by requiring the development and completion of a graduation portfolio.
