Call the Meeting to Order

S. Underwood called a meeting of the board of directors of Alabama Aerospace and Aviation High School to order on Thursday Feb 20, 2025 at 3:03 PM.

C.

Adoption of the Agenda

R. Smith made a motion to approve.
L. Hasenkamp seconded the motion.
The board VOTED to approve the motion.

D.

Approve Minutes from January 16, 2025 Meeting

L. Hasenkamp made a motion to approve the minutes from AAHS January Governing Board Meeting on 01-16-25.
R. Smith seconded the motion.
The board VOTED to approve the motion.

II. School Director Report

A.

2025-2026 School Calendar

J. Smith made a motion to Traditional calendar: 2025-2026.
L. Hasenkamp seconded the motion.

School Director discussed the 2025-2026 school calendar. 

 

Options Provided: 

1. Traditional Calendar 

2. Year Round Calendar 

 

Vote is for the traditional calendar to be approved. 

The board VOTED to approve the motion.

III. Financials

A.

FY '25 - January 2025 Financials

R. Smith made a motion to Approve January '25 Financials.
J. Smith seconded the motion.
The board VOTED to approve the motion.

B.

Mr. Sherman - Champion Proposal: Board Sponsorship

RJ Smith & Jeff Smith agreed to split the cost of the $700 expense for food of the ACT Champions 

IV. Committee Reports

A.

Facilities Committee Report

R. Smith made a motion to Extend the FOL lease for an additional year to June 2026.
J. Smith seconded the motion.
The board VOTED to approve the motion.

V. Chief Executive Officer's Report

A.

School Updates

1. FY'26 earmarks trip to DC - March 4th 

 

2. AAHS Basketball Team - Finished the season runner up in 2A Region 9 

 

3. Recruitment Update: 

A. 02.10 - CBS42 Interview w/ Champion Finn Payne 

B. 02.13 - ABC 33/40 Talk of Alabama Interview: Porshia & Mauri 

C. 29 applications submitted for '25-'26 school year

 

4. Earlier this month , we hosted the AAHS College Fair which brought 11 colleges, universities, trade schools and military branches to the school to inform our champions about post-secondary educational opportunities

 

5. Our partnership with Kratos has been cemented as they agreed to hire seven (7) of our champions for the inaugural internship program:

2. Daniel Key 

3. Ralphel Moore, Jr. 

4. Jaylen Turner-Long

5. Chaiyah Woods 

6. Taylor Jackson-Ferguson

7. Kayden Stoves 

 

6. Thank you to Board Member RJ Smith for taking Champions Israel Harris and Hezekiah Files to the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., Omicron Lambda's Founders Luncheon. 

 

7. Last, but certainly not least, Champion Israel Harris completed his solo flight this month.
