The RTHS Governance Committee meets on the second Thursday of each month, except for July and December. Meetings are held virtually between 5:30 pm and 6:30 pm ET. Meeting dates/times are subject to change with appropriate notice.

Approve Minutes

A. Tobien made a motion to approve the minutes from RTHS Governance Committee Meeting on 11-13-25.
M. Dwomoh seconded the motion.

Governance Items for Review and Approval

Amendments to the Cellphone policy due to a change in State law effective 1Jan2026

  • Main point of state law => personal devices not to be used during instructional time due to distractions.
  • RTHS had minimal change to its policy and updated the language to align with state law, and the school is not having an issue with this distraction.  Exceptions are noted for instructional use.

M. Dwomoh made a motion to approve the cell phones and wireless communication device RTHS policy.

Amendement to Section 2 - 1st paragraph to add to start with 'The use of ...'

Governance Items for Discussion

Articulation agreement:

  • New Articulation Agreement _ Sterling Montessori in Wake county is a charter public school K-8, informal feeder school to RTHS
  • RTHS has 2 existing articulation agreements with Durham schools

Discussion of proposed amendments to 2025-26 Board of Directors Policy and Procedures Manual relates to:

  • time commitment
  • attendance requirements

Edits to be brought up at next governance meeting

 

 

Recruitment Board positions:

  • Governance Chair 
  • Secretary 
  • Finance Chair
  • Vice-Chair
  • Board Members up to 3, currently 12 board members, and room for recruitment and 4 individuals recommended.
