Discuss Retreat Agenda Items: Goals Review, Program Updates, Data and Information Discussion
ED Chilcott gave updates on the African-American Family and Student Engagement Program including the work that she, Principal McGeorge, Coach Burger, and Coach Vic had been doing over the summer to prepare. She shared that Coach Burger and Coach Vic were starting with mentoring groups while she and Principal McGeorge were identifying parents to speak with in small focus groups. ED Chilcott shared that she would be sharing the program information with the full staff when they returned back to school on Tuesday, August 4, 2026. A. Cooley advised the board that this work will likely move slowly with this first year being a listening year, so not to expect large gains of improvement right away. C. Robie asked about professional development for the staff and ED Chilcott mentioned they are speaking with two different organizations about possible facilitation of the PD.
ED Chilcott reviewed the data calendar with the board and discussed when testing is done throughout the year, what tests are school assessments (Star test) and what is state testing (CAASPP and CAST). She explained that Star is the test the board should monitor for the most accurate data because it is tracking the same group of students and testing them at four different times in the same school year. ED Chilcott also asked the board to decide how they want data and what demographic data they want included when it's reported to them so she and her staff can create those reports and timelines in advance, and not go back and forth gathering additional data once she has delivered reports. C. Robie shared that it would be helpful to get the data in a synopsis format with information on what the staff plans to do with the data, and a link to the data tables for anyone who wants to review the numerical data. C. Robie noted that the board has a tendency to get into the weeds when looking at data and they need to keep each other accountable to stay out of that space. ED Chilcott shared she would share the data she has on a new monthly ED report she was creating and enrollment would be a regular reporting item, and that she would check with Principal McGeorge when the board could expect academic updates since monthly may not be possible.
