Dennis will make a statement as to why he wants to serve on our Board and how his presence will help foster communication and transparency between AoA and the AUSD Board. Board members will also be asked why they made a decision to join the The Academy of Alameda's Board of Directors.
  E. AUSD's Prop 39 Preliminary Offer of Space - 2/15/2017 (ES & MS)

AUSD gave us our preliminary ES and MS facility offer on February 15. The offer does not give us additional space needed for our growing elementary program despite the ample evidence that we have shown them thus far to support our in-district enrollment projections for 2017/18. We will respond back to AUSD by March 10 and AUSD will make their final facilities offer to us by April 1, 2017. Two of the attached documents are the preliminary offers to both AoA schools and the document that was presented at the 2/14 AUSD Board meeting.

Facility
  A. Proposal To Amend our Current Lottery Procedures

We would like to revise our lottery preferences so that they are the same for both our elementary school and middle school. Both, of course, give preference to Alameda families. The elementary school currently has different lottery language as we had to comply to the Public Charter Schools Grant Program (PCSGP), which; we no longer have to. In addition, we believe that simpler, concise language makes it easier for our families to understand.

  B. AoA Safe Haven Schools Resolution

State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson issued a letter Dec. 21 that encouraged schools throughout California to become “safe havens,” which reflect the policies that sanctuary cities have adopted. The Academy of Alameda wants to make a public statement affirming support for all its students and their families - especially those who have recently been subjected to discriminatory actions. The Academy is committed to providing a safe and inclusive environment where diversity is noticed, discussed, and celebrated.
