Board Report

Update from Sarah Zephirin, Board Secretary.  Looking at outreach to local bilingual preschools.  Reach out to the Board if you have a list of ideas or local preschools.  Working with the Director to keep working toward our Strategic Goals.  Looking at new curriculum from ODE.  Great job on the Move-a-thon.  Still working on the playground.  Board meetings are the third Thurdsay of the month and all are welcome to attend.

B.

Move-a-thon

We raised $82,349.  Corporate matches were $14,008.  Total money raised was $96,357.  Thank you to everyone who participated or donated.  We had 60% of donation from non-family donors.  Each year this fundraiser raises more money.  This year every student received prizes.  We used community-based prizes so that everyone was able to receive prizes.  Top class was Lagarde.  Top 3 classes: Lagarde, Tirado, Viera.  Top Grade: Kindergarten.  These classes all get extra prizes.

C.

Spirit Wear

Spirit wear items have shipped!  We will get those distributed for families as soon as possible.  We may do another order in spring.

D.

Vicnet

We have over 1000 volunteer hours and over 300 volunteers have signed up.  Please encourage others to sign up.

E.

Pick Up/Drop Off

Less Arco Iris families are parking in neighboring parking lots, so thank you.  There is one approved spot that is labeled in the adjacent lot.  This is available to purchase at the auction in the spring.  Otherwise, please remember to be caution when driving near the school and either use the drive thru or on-street parking.

F.

Stock the Breakroom

Collection today from the third grade class went well.  If you forgot to drop off your items, you can drop them by the office.  Next month is second grader stock the breakroom.

G.

Dia de los muertos

The 8th grade students put together an Altar to commemorate Dia de los Muertos. Bring
copies of photographs of loved ones that have passed. Photos will not be returned.  The altar is in the school lobby if you would like to see it.

H.

Coffee with the Director

We hope to see you on Friday, Oct. 6th at 8:35am, after drop off, in front of the school for
coffee and donuts with the Director! Come to ask questions, get to know other families, or just to hang out. We look forward to seeing more families attend!

I.

Library Days

Wednesday, November 1 - 2nd and 3rd Graders

Thursday, November 2 - 4th and 5th Graders

Look for volunteer spots on Vicnet, and thank you to everyone who has volunteered so far.  Our library is not possible without volunteers.

November No School Days

No school on Nov 9-10 and 17-24.  Look for an email to sign up for conference times.  Times can be during the day or in the evening.  All conferences will be on Zoom.  You will have the option to meet with your homeroom and ELA teacher.

K.

Ruby Bridges

Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day is coming soon on Tuesday, 11/14. Join students from around the country in a walk for justice and take steps to build a better future where racism, and all forms of bullying, have no place.

L.

Fundraising

Next restaurant night is Nov 15-16 at Papa Murphy's at Murray/Allen.  Online only, use codeword CARE.  Buy extra and use for dinner Friday.  December restaurant night is Crumbl Cookie and gift certificates count for the fundraiser.  Buy gift cards for holiday gifts.  January 20 will be the Red Robin at Washington Square.  This is a Saturday event with 20% going back to Arco Iris.

Bottle drop bonus event is in November.  This is an extra 20% for our school.  Collection event is on November 16 with possibly a second event on Nov 30.  Collection happens on Stratus at school pick up.  Bonus period is Nov 15-Dec 2 and you can turn in bags on your own or at a school collection event. Bags can be picked up in the school lobby if you need more.

Family Night

Friday, December 1.  More details to come.  Students earned a glow party, which will happen in school during PE.  We are working with school administration to schedule pajama day, which was also a move-a-thon prize the students earned.

N.

Uniform Exchange

Boxes will be placed outside the school at the end of November to collect uniforms you no longer need.  We will place the uniform bins out during family night for anyone to look through.  This is a great time to get a larger size if your student has grown.

O.

Jaguar Card

Don't forget to fill out your Jaguar Card.  These can be printed off of the school PTO website or from the front office.  Fill out as you attend events or for other qualifying items. When all 20 jaguar paw prints get dates, send a photo of your completed card and your name to the PTO at pto@arcoirisschool.com to be entered into a raffle to win a prize! Cards are due by May 17, 2024. (We are using the honor system)

P.

Room Parents

Once room parents have had a chance to meet with the teacher, they will send out communication to classes.  We are working on a list of allergies in each class.  This list includes allergies per class, no student information is included on the allergy list.  This will help us get a list of pre-approved snacks for class parties or other events.
