Curriculum & Instruction
Nisah Brinson provided a curriculum update centered on strengthening core instruction and addressing misunderstandings related to the K–5 scoring system. She explained the transition to numerical grades to improve clarity for students, families, and teachers. She also shared progress on the schoolwide reading plan, which includes staff training, parent engagement sessions, student assemblies, and weekly common assessments in both ELA and math. Targeted interventions remain a priority, particularly for students performing two or more grade levels below expectations. Nisah discussed ongoing efforts to reinforce foundational skills, including the reintroduction of cursive writing to build fluency and strengthen literacy development. She also noted the need to confirm the number of schools using Amplify and committed to providing this information. The team briefly reviewed anticipated MAP testing timelines, with results available within 24 hours of administration.
C.
Culture
Brenda Edwards presented culture and climate data, noting a decrease in discipline referrals and out-of-school suspensions, indicating positive momentum following recent behavior interventions. She highlighted the successful launch of the new sensory room, which has become a valuable support for students needing emotional or behavioral regulation. Additional updates included student participation highlights such as the school’s involvement in the Macon-Bibb County Christmas Parade and the robotics team’s upcoming competition. The committee acknowledged ongoing efforts to strengthen schoolwide culture and reinforce consistent expectations across grade levels
Diane Freeman shared an overview of current enrollment, noting that numbers have remained steady between 460–500 students since July and emphasizing ongoing retention efforts through engagement, extracurricular opportunities, and consistent communication with families. She presented updated Georgia Milestones and CCRPI data, highlighting areas of concern—particularly in early grades, where third-grade ELA performance showed a high percentage of beginning learners. While the overall CCRPI score saw a slight decline, middle school demonstrated growth in content mastery. Diane also reviewed performance trends across subjects, identifying gaps in ELA and science and noting improvements in math. She shared updates on ESOL student progress, with two students scheduled for reassessment through a January consortium. The committee briefly discussed the possibility of reviving a two-year teacher–student model to strengthen academic continuity, and Diane agreed to analyze historical outcomes to determine viability.
