Review Academic Excellence Committee 2021-2022 Goals

The committee reviewed the annual goals of the committee.  We are continuing the work on these goals with anticipation of completion of goals at the next committee meeting.

C.

Continue working on Definition of Academic Excellence

Kylie Holley explained to the committee members that district staff began brainstorming ideas for a definition of academic excellence during Pre-Planning.  She then presented a compiled list of the processes and the student outcomes that the staff identified through their work.  The committee members looked at these and discussed some of the key words and agreed that the definition should include both academic and culture.  The academic focus should be on growth more than just high achievement and culture should be on relationships and character; overall students reaching their full potential academically and socially/emotionally.  The possible academic measures would include both the overall CCRPI score and individual growth.

The committee decided that the leadership teams from both schools will create a draft definition based on the ideas collected so far.  A draft definition will be presented to the committee for a final definition at the next committee meeting.

D.

Review Milestones Data

The committee reviewed 2020-2021 Milestones scores as compared to local districts, state average, other charters in SWGA, as well compared to previous years’ performance.   PCA outperformed the local districts overall, but needs improvements in some of the other areas. SCCA outperformed the local districts in 8/22 areas and PCA in 12/18 areas.  Both schools needs to focus on increasing the number of students scoring Level 3 and 4.  School leaders, Heather Worsely, Reagen Beamon, and Kathy Bantz explained the short-term and long-term improvements plans.

E.

Review MAPs Data

Beginning of Year MAP Benchmark data was reviewed.  This data shows that more students are starting the year off below grade level.  However, projected proficiency on Milestones show more students passing Milestones in both subjects and more Proficient in ELA than last year.

F.

PCA SAT Data

2020-2021 SAT data was reviewed.  In the past 3 years, median scores have continuously risen. Last year’s scores outperformed local districts, local charters, and were very close to the state average.

G.

SCSC 2020-2021 Academic CPF Update

Kylie Holley has been communicating with the Charter School Commission about how our charter academic goals will be measured from last year.  Since PCA had so few MS and HS students take the Milestones last year, there were not enough to receive a score.  As a result, the commission said that we can use benchmark data instead.

III. Closing Items

A.

Future Meeting Dates

The next meeting is scheduled for December 6.  Kylie Holley said that we would have a defintion of Academic Excellence by then, but we wouldn't have Winter MAP Scores, since the window has been pushed back.  Rochelle Sapp will reset this date and future dates to align with the winter and spring MAPS windows.

B.

Adjourn Meeting

R. Lane made a motion to adjourn the meeting.
K. Gilbert seconded the motion.
The committee VOTED unanimously to approve the motion.
There being no further business to be transacted, and upon motion duly made, seconded and approved, the meeting was adjourned at 6:00 PM.

Respectfully Submitted,
R. Sapp
