Call the Meeting to Order

Dr. Jahquille Ross called a meeting of the Academic Excellence Committee of Laureate Academy Charter School Board of Directors to order on Wednesday Aug 5, 2026 at 3:48 PM.

Monique Handy made a motion to Handy.
Dr. Jahquille Ross seconded the motion.
The committee VOTED to approve the motion.

II. Teacher Related Updates

A.

Hiring Needs for 26-27 School Year

  • 3 Para-professionals needed. 
  • K-2nd SPED Teacher 
  • Part-time Social Worker. 
  • Part-time Gifted Teacher 

III. SY 25-26 School Culture Data

A.

Attendance

  • 97% for last school year. 

B.

Suspensions and Expulsions

  • None Expulsions 
  • 94 OSS 
  • 95 during SY 24-25
  • 138 during SY 23-24
  • Goal - 70-75 OSS for the 29-27 SY 

IV. SY 25-26 Student Assessment Data

A.

K - 3rd DIBELS

  • Overall, 52% to 68%.  
    • Kindergarten had a large amount of growth. 
  • The goal is 85% for the 26-27 SY. 
  • Strategic support for the lower percentile students with intervention support and homeroom placement. 
    • Example - 2nd teacher in classrooms.

EOY ANET Benchmarks

  • ELA 
    • 7th Grade has good growth. 
  • Math 
    • Dropped 6 points. 
    • Shift in curriculum from Eureka to Eureka Squared. 
  • Will get back to us on the in-depth data analysis.

LEAP Data - By Content Area Mastery & Subgroups

Mastery Percentage by Content 

  • Science 
    • Mastery Growth - 7% to 28%. (Over 3 years)
  • Social Studies - 21% 
  • Math - 19% 
  • ELA - 33% 
  • A heavy focus this year will be on small group intervention and Math as the focus content area.

  • Our next meeting will take place Monday, November 2nd at 2:00 PM. 
  • Before the September Board Meeting, the Academic Committee will draft and pull in feedback for the head of school performance evaluation.
