Pratt shared measures that City on a Hill is taking academically, which includes using MAP data to level set against other schools and students, bringing students back to school, holding retention meetings with families, as well as continuing monthly grade level meetings.
Pratt shared that the purpose of retention meetings is to create an action plan for individual students who are not able to matriculate to the next grade due to their academic performance or attendance. These meetings are held with the parents and families of the students. The Committee discussed the tone of retention meetings, and what supports retained students will have moving forward.
Pratt then directed the Committee's attention to the NWEA MAP test, which is a state-aligned, computerized adaptive test to measure a student's growth over time. Pratt shared City on a Hill's MAP data with the Committee, noting that City on a Hill's Winter MAP test scores fall somewhat below the national average. The Committee plans to review MAP growth percentiles after the test is administered again to students in early June.
Pratt shared that City on a Hill is planning for summer school to take place in July. Pratt also shared that the Leadership Team has chosen to lower the average score to get into summer school from 60% to 50%, as well as noted that City on a Hill is fully staffed for summer school. The Committee discussed City on a Hill not having credit recovery courses this summer school year, opting to focus on remediation classes.
Pratt shared staff retention data with the Committee next School Year. The Committee also discussed the hiring process for School Year 2021-2022, which is well underway. The discussion concluded with the Committee discussing supports for students moving into next school year, including but not limited to, MAP testing students three times for growth purposes, continuing to work with a math consultant and looking to hire a science consultant, and a adding vice principal to the leadership team.
