Call the Meeting to Order

G. Swick called a meeting of the Master Plan & Facilities Committee Committee of Elgin Math & Science Academy to order on Wednesday Nov 15, 2023 at 4:00 PM.

Approve Minutes of the September 20, 2023, Meeting of the Master Planning Committee

K. Kelly made a motion to approve the minutes from Master Planning and Environmental Committee Meeting on 09-20-23.
D. Haight seconded the motion.
The committee VOTED unanimously to approve the motion.

II. Master Plan & Facilities Committee

A.

COO Report on Construction & Campus Grounds

Dan Alexander presented a short report drawn from the comments in the Agenda, and answered questions.  

B.

Facilities Reserve Fund

Dan reported on the firms he had contacted for additional proposals, and said he would follow up with the firm Kluber in Aurora.  He said he hoped to have at least one additional proposal to share, at the next meeting of the Committee. 

C.

Review & Discuss Opportunities for Crew Involvement in Campus Projects

Gary and the Committee engaged in a long conversation using a list of Outdoor Education resources, Existing and Potential.  The Committee helped to add to his list with several additional ideas for staff involvement in outdoor education.  

 

Gary indicated he would reach out to Ms. Willer and then to teachers with such ideas.  Kerry also said she would speak with several teachers, and connect Dan with the Men's Shed group.  

 

 

D.

Sustainability

The Committee discussed several points related to safety, including roads, I-25, and transport of persons needing assistance to travel from building to building.  

III. Campus Environment & Historical Character

A.

Activities that could significantly impact the environment and/or historic character of the school need to be vetted.

The Committee agreed it would raise these issues with Principal Willer ahead of Better World Day.

There being no further business to be transacted, and upon motion duly made, seconded and approved, the meeting was adjourned at 5:20 PM.
