II. Summer Event
A.
Kimberly reported that the Juneteenth Event was likely to not be a "tabling" event but she planned to attend wearing an EMSA shirt.
Kimberly detailed the August Back To School events at which EMSA could do summer engagement with community:
1. Hope Fest. This takes place in August at Christ Community Church, date to be confirmed. It is a back to school fair, and a great place to "table" usually from 10-2. Dan will email JW and ask if the School can identify a staff person or people to be present, bilingual would be a plus.
2. Project Backpack. This has traditionally been held at Elgin Community College in the Gym. Kimberly is going to research whether it's back for this year. Again, a Saturday in August, and it would be good to have staff there, bilingual a plus again.
3. Back to School Barbecue - this should be taking place outdoors in a park in August - date to be confirmed. Again, a good place to "table."
Dan will ask JW about ordering marketing supplies to give away - things kids need to go back to school, to give away (toothbrush kits for example).
Goal is to generate momentum & communication through email chain around Outreach, leading to a July Meeting of the Committee and prep for August events.
Kimberly noted that the Meeting was taking place in remote fashion due to the COVID pandemic, and for health reasons.
Kimberly and Dan discussed Summertime recruitment opportunities:
Kimberly reported that the Elgin Juneteenth observance was likely to not be a "tabling" event but that she planned to attend in EMSA clothing.
Dan reported that EMSA was registered for the South Elgin July 4th Parade, and that Jacquelyn had emailed parents to ask for people interested in marching. Dan will email JW copying KS and Bethea, asking about parent response thusfar, and to keep us posted. The parade starting time is 8:30 am on July 4th, with the starting place at Spring Street and Wedgewood Drive in South Elgin.
