Approve May 11, 2022 Meeting Minutes

G. Swick made a motion to approve the minutes from Master Planning Meeting on 05-11-22.
A. Anderson seconded the motion.
The committee VOTED to approve the motion.

II. Campus Strategic Planning

A.

Facilities SY2022-23

D. Alexander briefly discussed the options.

  • Option A is for the complete renovation of the Administration building which includes the 7.2-million-dollar debt.
  • Mobile Classroom Option: Adding a (2) classroom mobile building. It would be located at a clearing on the road up to the Art Barn. This space is big enough for a (2) classroom mobile building. There are some site costs to this. It would be around $500,000 for cost. The disadvantage would be it only provides (2) classrooms. Renting would be a more expensive cost. Buying used can end up with us buying a 15-year-old building where the bottom is compromised.
  • Another option was to increase the density in the elementary building for more offices (SPED, MLL & Intervention). It would mean having a smaller kitchen and moving the serving line to the commons. There would be quite a bit of construction which would cost around $300,000. Some of the disadvantages would be the cost, greater density, and more students in the elementary building.
  • Dining Hall: The cost of a thorough renovation of the first floor would provide support spaces, legal bathrooms, and two classrooms. It was the cost of $1.5 million - $1.6 million. There are other costs that would come into this such as architecture, furniture, and technology. The disadvantage is that it is two classrooms instead of four classrooms.

Update & Discussion

Updates:

  • J. Willer will be attending the next meeting to discuss Friday Field Studies.
  • Kayode and other teachers want to learn about integrating nature into their curriculum.

The 6th Grade Passion Project was selected, and it was a vegetable garden.

Other Project: Kindergarten Outdoor Science and Learning Center

  • D. Alexander will have Bulley & Andrews along with K. Taylor sponsor to donate time and material to construct the kindergarten enclosure (gates, fence, and interior). It is not official, but they do seem favorable. D. Alexander should know more by next week. This would happen in July as a volunteer project. D. Alexander to coordinate with EMSA as a community project.
  • A. Anderson advised about having student involvement when we get to the inside of the kindergarten enclosure. A. Anderson stated that it would be good to make an announcement to the community about this.

IV. Construction & Expansion

A.

Summer/Fall 2022 Capital Investment Options
