C. | Campus-wide Maintenance and Repairs
EMSA has put out an RFP for bid for landscape & snow removal services, covering all 19+ acres, to five subcontractors located in Elgin and surrounding towns.
In heavy rains, the Primary School Building roof has been almost totally water-tight.
|
||
D. | Contingency Allocated Spending
At its September 28, 2021 the Board of Directors gave conditional approval to undertake certain grounds improvements provided the cost for each item, did not exceed the estimate provided in September by more than 15%. Two such items have upon investigation been found to cost less than the approved amounts and will be constructed:
1. $7,250 for Kellenberger to install a drain and drain pipe to better drain the lowest level of the asphalt in front of the Gym. This had been estimated to be a $10,250 cost; hydrojetting of the catch basin near the log had been included in the higher cost estimate, but is being deferred.
2. Approximately $7,500 for Green Guerrilla to plant seed and plugs of native plants; re-build earthern slopes and cover them with erosion control material; construct a sloped connection between asphalt and concrete paths; install catchbasins and plastic piping to redirect water from the northern and western downspouts, away from the Middle School Building. This approach was less expensive than the gabions solution by approximately one-half.

V. | Environmental Subcommittee Report
A. | Update | |
We've had several new looks with new people regarding the storm water, gutters, & vegetation issues. Regarding bare spots, preference is to have ground cover; will have bare spots around gym (in front & between buildings) seeded. Need to assemble a trail committee.
Recent November bird sitings: blue birds, bald eagles, nuthatches, red-bellied woodpeckers, chickadees, robins, downy woodpeckers, Completed and Ongoing

B. | School Year 2023 Primary School Building Ideas
SY23 EMSA will host grades K-7, 16 classrooms needed in addition to office-space requirements (Primary School building has 13 classrooms, the gym has 4, the art barn has 1)
Update: Construction pricing proposal, solicited from Mazur Construction based upon subcontractor pricing, is in process. A second proposal can be obtained from Bulley & Andrews. While some V/E ideas were floated to reduce costs, the main purpose of this exercise was to determine more exactly, the actual cost of the ideas to add the two new program spaces, expand the former Principal's Office, and close off the Kindergarten vestibule area.
More information to follow, in December.
