Dr. Hahn briefly recaps the Summer Symposium with 3 sections in focus: communication, matriculation and teacher leadership. The communication section focused on how to communicate with families without inundating them with information. There are Seven grade level team leaders and five department chairs participated in the teacher leadership team. They created a delineation of duties that the grade-level team leaders would meet and form a new faculty counsel. The department chairs will each rotate between presenting to the board. Dr. Dan introduced Cheyenne Butcher as the August representatie of the faculty council to the board.
Ms. Cheyenne Butcher — Introduces herself as presenter of the teaching report. This is her third time participating in the Summer Symposium. She found this symposium helpful as it delved into the role of leadership. Of the three groups, she participated in the communications group. The group came up with ideas and initiatives on how to bridge the gap in communication between parents and teachers, teachers and students and students and parents. They are most excited about having the commitment of students and parents and voicing those commitments. The first week we will send a welcome introductory email as we have found that the first point of contact should not be about behavior or grades. We are aiming for students to lead communication with parents as a way to bridge the gap between parents and students. The communications group also discussed student accountability in regard to absences. The hope is to implement automated calls to make parents physically aware of absences and tardiness. The teacher leadership group was incredible. It helped her clarify her role as a department head with a clear understanding that will help me better serve her department.

Mr. Sharples reports that the FOT donated money to match the school funds that together purchased 20 digital cameras for the Photography department. Thanks to Anuj Braggs, we were connected with Zeffy for a free CRM. The FOT has been working to create parent volunteer forms. Trivia night will be this November 12th and the location has not been set in stone, but the library is a strong possibility. Planning for Spring Fest has also begun.

Dr. Smith announces the first day of school is Thursday, August 13th. We have had teachers in the building this week for our professional development day, with the last day being tomorrow. As of now, there are 530 students enrolled and that is 5 more than the cap and there is still a waiting list in nearly all grades. Last month, 60 more applications were submitted that will go on the waitlist as well. We typically try to enroll 75 students per grade, and we are really close to those numbers. However, there are 84 students currently enrolled in 9th grade and some fluctuations are expected. Starting last Thursday, Crossland started construction on the 3rd floor media room. They are building a wall to divide the space back into the original two classrooms. We have been notified that Trane has been contacted to work on the chillers. That work has not started yet. We have about 6 classrooms that aren't tolerable and there are a few other hot spots. Tomorrow, the plan is to buy 6 AC units for the classrooms that are too hot for classes. There is a plan to re-key the building and the new plan rekeys the interior as well as exterior. All the tumblers for the locks have been ordered, and they may start on the first floor exterior first. Phone and classroom projector installation are complete. We have a new kitchen manager and her name is Yosh. Tiffany with Oppa! has transitioned to another school that is closer to her home.
