Staffing Update
No Art teacher has been hired. The position was offered to 3 people who have turned it down for various reasons. Jill has asked an artist without a bachelor’s degree if she is interested. That person could teach for 60 school days without a degree. Bob asked what “plan B” is. Jill reported that andministrators are discussing creative alternatives if the position doesn’t get filled before the start of school.
Jill informed the committee of a workshop on “ Fundamentals of Fundraising” presented by the Northwest CT Community Foundation. The cost is $100/session or $450 for all 5 sessions; she may only want to attend some of them. Ginni suggested that a Board member could go as well, to which Bob agreed. Scholarships are available.
There are currently 77 students enrolled, fewer than usual for this time of year. While we may end up with several more enrollments, our population will likely be lower than usual which will impact the budget. We may have to use some of the tax credit money for operations when we get it. Reasons for low enrollment aren’t clear; one suggestion was that more students left at the end of last year due to attendance issues.
Bob asked about the enrollment of Special Education students. Jill reported that there are more students with special needs enrolled than last year, which may bring in 30,000 to 40,000 more.
Jill also noted that amounts of Title I and Title II grants are still unknown.
