Call the Meeting to Order

Robert Peterson called a meeting of the board of directors of Explorations Charter School to order on Tuesday Nov 21, 2023 at 5:32 PM.

Approve Minutes - 10/17/2023 Regular Board Meeting

Ginni Block made a motion to approve the minutes from Governing Board Regular Meeting on 10-17-23.
Robert Peterson seconded the motion.
The board VOTED unanimously to approve the motion.

II. Financial

A.

Monthly Report

Susan presented.  33% into the school year.  Had to buy new QuickBooks.  There will be a new budget to be reviewed by Finance. 

Robert Peterson made a motion to Approve the Finance Report for October.
Ginni Block seconded the motion.
The board VOTED unanimously to approve the motion.

III. Committee Updates

Finance Committee

Finance Committee needs to meet. 

B.

Policy Committee

None at this time. 

C.

Personnel Committee

Bill and Sarah have had scheduling issues.  Hoping to meet soon. 

D.

Director Evaluation

Lori suggested that we start fresh in January.  Ginni and Lori to meet with Leo from Board on Track to hopefully get better templates to be used. 

IV. School News

A.

Attendance/Chronic Absenteeism

October:

CA (ytd) = 28.8% (was 41.9% last year)

Avg Daily Attendance = 90.1% (up from % last year)

9th - 87.6% - 26.7%

10th - 92.67% - 23.8%

11th - 89.92% - 25.9%

12th - 89.47% - 41.2%

 

Joe and Beth spend 2-3 days a week on attendance issues. 

State noticed chronic absenteeism down from from last year and last month. 

Bob, Sarah and Jill have held tried to meet with chronically absents students and their parents.  Only three meetings have had both a parent and a child have attended.

General Updates

1. Enrollment: Started the year with 89 students.  Currently down to 80.  

Discussion held.  

 

V. Other Business

A.

Renewal Visit Discussion

State visit went well.  They stated that they are seeing improvements in curriculum and attendance.  All issues were addressed.

B.

Flooding Emergency Update

1. Winsted Health Center - Jeff continues to hold art classes up there.  Jeff uses the van for one call for a student who is in the wheelchair and another in crutches. 

2. Public Adjuster - Positive things, working on final numbers. 

3. Asbestos Update - No asbestos found 

4. St. Anthony - Joe to follow up about getting more information. 

C.

Board Members

1.  State requested that we need a new teacher representative.  Jill is to ask at a staff meeting who might be interested. Will need to put this in teacher contracts. 

2. Need to find a Current parent rep. 

3.  Need a student rep.
