Call the Meeting to Order

Robert Peterson called a meeting of the board of directors of Explorations Charter School to order on Tuesday Sep 19, 2023 at 5:32 PM.

Approve Minutes - 6/22/2023 Regular Board Meeting

Sarah Annis Haynes made a motion to approve the minutes from Governing Board Regular Meeting on 06-22-23.
Robert Peterson seconded the motion.
The board VOTED to approve the motion.

Approve Minutes - 8/5/2023 Board Retreat

Lori Noto made a motion to approve the minutes from Board Retreat on 08-05-23.
Robert Peterson seconded the motion.
The board VOTED to approve the motion.

II. Financial

A.

Monthly Report

Ginni Block made a motion to Approve the Financial Monthly report.
Lori Noto seconded the motion.

Air Conditioner died in August due to lightning. 

The board VOTED to approve the motion.

III. Committee Updates

A.

Finance Committee

The school received employee retention credit.  

 

The school closed on its mortgage. 

B.

Policy Committee

No update at this time. 

C.

Personnel Committee

No update at this time. 

IV. School News

A.

Attendance/Chronic Absenteeism

Huge thank you for Beth and Joe for all of their tireless work with the Attendance Committee. 

 

At the end of September 2022, the school had 32 students chronically absent.  As of the mid of September 2023, the school has 14 students chronically absent.  

B.

General Updates

1. Upcoming Parent Meetings: September 19th at the school with pizza.  Topic "Digital Obessions" presented by Silver Hill. 

2.  Silver Hill to provide period presentations to both the staff and for parents. 

3.  New program called Senior Ambassadors.  Seniors had to apply to do.  Leadership program. 

4. Enrollment: Enrollment is currently down to 89 students.  

V. Other Business

A.

Corrective Action Plan & State Meeting

Jill and Joe met with the State for four hours. 

State coming back out on 10/5. 

B.

Renewal Application Update & Discussion

State renewal application was completed and due 9/8.  State application is typically due in November.  Application consisted of 38 documents. 

C.

Discussion and possible action regarding enrollment

Robert Peterson made a motion to give the school administration discretion to reduce the capacity of the school student body as long as their funds to do so.
Lori Noto seconded the motion.
The board VOTED to approve the motion.

A.

Board entered into Executive Session at 6:18pm.

Ginni Block made a motion to enter Executive Session at 6:18 pm.
Robert Peterson seconded the motion.
The board VOTED to approve the motion.
