V. Executive Director Updates

A.

Executive Director's Updates

Executive Director, Kolt Bloxson share an update:

  • Year 3 is officially in the books ! Some data on how great we did:
    • MACS’s growth out performed all local Cobb County schools AND the State of Georgia! According to MAP, all of our classes MET their growth metrics, and over 90% of our classes met achievement metrics for ELA.
    • All of our BIG MACS employees are returning, and those metrics support our 84% employee retention percentage.
    • MACS MET on the SCSC’s Academic Performance Metrics.
    • …and MACS has a FULL policy dashboard and tracker tool to guide the work of the Board for future years to come!
  • Miles Ahead Charter School’s Governing Board Policy Tracker (HERE)
    • This policy document is meant to establish a firm governance and policy foundation upon which MACS can develop its day to day procedures for effective practice and implementation. Over 8 months of review, collection, and development went into this and it feels GREAT knowing this is here to guide us.
    • As we move forward, we do have some discussions to finalize HOW we want to engage with this dashboard  :
      • Which committee/seats should be monitoring and tracking for policy updates and renewals?
      • How do we want to make this publicly accessible?
      • How can this be used to guide the work of the board/employees?
  • MAP & Milestones - growth and achievement continue to be a top priority for each scholar.
    • Math MAP: Overall achievement 61%; growth 58%
    • ELA MAP: Overall achievement 61%; growth 59%
    • Math Georgia Milestones
    • Note: This was the first assessment year for the new ELA standards, thus they have not yet released those scores. Here is the notice we received from GADOE related to those scores:
      • New Georgia Milestones tests in English language arts aligned to the new Georgia K-12 ELA Standards will be administered for the first time in the 2025-2026 school year. Because these are new English language art tests aligned to new content standards, there is significant technical work, including the determination of achievement expectations (i.e., cut scores), that must be completed prior to releasing student scores. A waiver of Rule 160-4-2-.11 PROMOTION, PLACEMENT, AND RETENTION sections (3)(a), (3)(b), (3)(c) and Rule 160-4-2-.13 STATEWIDE PASSING SCORE sections (2)(d), (2)(e), (2)(f) for the content area of English language arts for the 2025-2026 school year (through July 31, 2026) was approved by the SBOE to allow sufficient time for this technical work to be completed.
