Other School Updates

COVID UPDATES
KN started by sharing the August board report. Attendance is 91%. Once we saw a rise in cases, KN promptly sent a notification out to families that outlined new details -- masks, sanitization, eliminate group settings, eating outdoors, and breakfast in villages. The highest number of cases during a week time span was 4. Over the past week, we've only had one active case. We have not had to quarantine due to restrictions and space

We took kids over to Ivy Tech for vaccines.  We are hosting a vaccine clinic on October 28th. Batch testing through state program will start next week on-site. We lost confidence in the Binax Now.

Attendance and Enrollment
MW questioned the virtual option for kids. KN explained about that we went back to 100% virtual option for scholars. KN did share BCCHS did not report positive cases.

Enrollment landed at 130 for count date. KN reviewed scholar demographic. Only 12 SPED scholars. We're launching SPED programming full force because we think we have some misidentified scholars.

GPA
GPAs have been a lot stronger this year. We have a strong mix of male/female academic strength. We had a lot of scholars, specifically males, who have come in very strong and are enrolled in their first college courses. Proud of the reputation that our school has built and created in the community.

Lexile Data
This data shows where kids are coming in where they need to be -- at or below grade level. Reading groups are launching to support below basic scholars during acceleration block. All scholars receive double block ELA currently.

A few scholars are struggling with expectations and doing work because they are not use to being held accountable by previous schools/communities.

Went into partnership with SPEDActs and being paid through Part B funds.

26% of current scholars are taking college courses. We have several kids who will end the school year with 12 credits by the end of the 9th grade. Grade report was received from Ivy Tech for summer courses.

PD: Focusing on building and student culture.

First open house is scheduled for October 23rd 2021 @ 10AM. Open to the public.

American Exchange Program: Kids are able to travel to other states with scholars etc. Still exploring the program.

Parent Surveys: 94% 1st month, 85% 2nd month

KNB is currently the dean of culture and principal while AJA is out and BT transitioned out.

School Culture:
Drug incident with scholars -- two scholars are being drug tested weekly. Other scholar transferred before we could process paperwork.

*Moved into Executive Session*
Discussed staff and HR issues

Transportation
One bus is up and running. Other bus has been purchased and in possesion -- it is in the shop now.

Security
KN shared updates around building issues overnight. Cleaning company left the door open. Everything ended fine -- nothing was stolen.

Facilties:
Lawyer Crystal has done a great job. PA is in Kim's inbox. We think we may be ready to purchase in January. HVAC is working now -- April is trying to get Ivy Tech to cover the cost.

911 Attempts
Three ambulance calls were made in one week.
