Staffing
1. All positions are filled.
2. Gr 2 is large enough that it is in 2 sections.
3. Gr 3-6 have been departmentalized, with teachers assigned by subjects for different grades in order to allow teachers to expand their subject matter expertise as well as providing a better schedule for teacher prep time and breaks without hiring more staff.
4. Administrative staff will be participating in the classrooms: Operations Manager will be teaching Gr5 and Gr6 Science, the staff responsible for discipline will teach Gr 5 math.
5.The teacher who left last year for salary concerns, after receiving salary increase and stipend from new grant funding for all teachers, has returned. He is a most welcome return.
6. Last year teachers left because they didn't want to be teachers. This year the staff as a whole evidences a desire and excitement for teaching.
B.
Enrollment
1. A steady enrollment number is better finalized after the fluctuations during the first three weeks of school. As of now it is about 170.
2. An interesting note is that 5 students who left have returned, after finding Prelude a better option. Several incoming six graders were lost as parents wanted more of a "middle school experience." They will be going to the Harlandale school district.

Superintendent Comments
1. Although Ms. Lewis is on maternity leave, she was back for the first day and observed that this was the smoothest opening day yet.
2. Already, SpEd referrals are being made for multiple students.
3. Music class for Gr6, given 2x/week for all students, will be piano lessions. 25 digital pianos have been obtained with EMAT funds. In addition keyboards have been purchased to allow students to take them home to practice. There are not yet enough students for a band, but one of the teachers is qualified to teach band.
4. Lockers are provided for 6th graders.
5. Sports have started this year.
a. Teachers have filled all coaching positions.
b. A virtual parents meeting for sports was held last night, when the code of conduct (developed by administration) was presented. This stresses that sporting participants are to maintain focus on academics and behavior over sports. The code of conduct also includes expectations of parents' behavior at games. A school creed of sportsmanship is to be recited by students before each game.
c. Gr4-6 7 on 7 flag football. The first game is next week.
d. Gr4-6 girls' volleyball.
e. K-Gr3 pep squad
6. The teacher who was promoting composting for science last year has left, but a SA Composting group has been working with the school and has worked hard to continue this as well as provide donated mulch for the grounds.
7. The Garden for Giving project has been delayed because of the poor soil on the grounds. The composting and mulching projected are expected to help get soil ready to start this.
Ms. Lewis presented the STAAR results. Our school accountability rating is a B with a scaled score of 80, up from the previous two years of C (74) in 2024 and D (2023, our first year of testing).
Student achievement rating is C (72),
School progress B (81)
Academic Growth B (81),
Relative Performance (Economically disadvantaged 91.4%) B (80)
Closing the Gaps C (78). [% of students on grade level]
The proportion of overall rating was School Progress 70%, Closing Gap 30%, Student Achievement 0%.
Reading is not where it should be, but using the framework of Writing Revolution we are getting closer to better.
