Academic Achievement Dashboard Review

Wendy provided the committee with an overview of academic trends from the year, noting that students were performing well as readers and even better as mathematicians. She and Jess then reviewed the Dashboard in detail.

ACCESS scores were very strong, with 94% of students met their progress targets (the DESE target for the school was 85%).  Chronic Absenteeism percentage has decreased from 10% in May to 6.4% in June (17 students).  Jess noted that we recently learned that kindergarten attendance is not considered in the state absenteeism rate, but that our report includes kindergarten students and we do not treat kindergarten absences any differently.  For ELA ANet, the partially met its goal with most grade levels meeting internal performance and/or comparison goals.

The committee asked about the school's plans for STEM given the school's strength in math.  Bill noted that this is something they would like to develop over time.  The committee discussed the possibility of doing some programming during "STEM week" as a way of building exciting for STEM fields.

Wendy reviewed end-of-year STEP results.  In Kindergarten, performance from last year has dropped around 14%, while 1st grade has seen incremental improvement. 2nd grade has decreased from last year and 3rd-grade performance has shown incremental growth. The committee also analyzed a cohort analysis and discuss potential trends.
