III. ED Items
A.
Executive Director Report
Meghan provided updates on preparations for the upcoming school year, including staffing, summer programming, facilities improvements, and opportunities for Board members to conduct classroom observations. She also reviewed recent state policy and funding developments, including new early literacy requirements, anticipated statewide cellphone restrictions, and potential additional education funding. Mary Kate asked about the state’s authority to mandate curriculum elements, and Anne provided context on the broader movement toward high-quality instructional materials and similar efforts in other states. Shawna compared the initiative to Common Core. Anne asked how potential additional funding would interact with the school’s approved budget, and Shawna asked about the Board’s role in determining the use of unanticipated funds. Meghan explained that significant changes to the approved budget would be brought back to the Board for approval. Meghan also reported that staffing remained strong overall, with a search underway to fill an open school counselor position following a recent departure.
IV. Finance Items
A.
End of Year Financial Report
Marelin presented the strong FY26 year-end financial results and reviewed the school’s overall financial position and performance relative to budget. The Board expressed satisfaction with the results and the school’s overall level of financial stability. Amy praised the level of detail in the financial reporting, and she and Anne noted that the presentation format was clear and helpful. Mary Kate asked about Board giving, which fell short of the participation target, prompting discussion of the timing of contributions and strategies to increase Board participation in the coming year.
V. Governance Items
A.
2025-26 DESE Annual Report
Meghan presented the 2025–26 Annual Report and reviewed key academic, instructional, family, staff, and dissemination measures, noting strong results across most areas. She discussed longer term work to better align goals and performance measures across the Annual Report and other school planning documents after noting some inconsistencies among existing measures. LaShawna asked how the school measures teacher effectiveness, and Meghan suggested a deeper review of teacher performance and related supports by the Academic Achievement Committee. Amy asked whether the Annual Report is publicly available, and Meghan confirmed that it is posted on the school’s website. Amy also suggested incorporating peer comparisons and trend information where useful in future reporting. The Board discussed family survey participation and opportunities to improve participation going forward.

Garth noted that the consent agenda included authorization to release capital funds for the parking lot project and therefore required a formal Board vote. The Board subsequently voted to approve the consent agenda.
Also, Trustee-elects Brandon Quiterio and Natasha Perales attended and participated in the meeting while awaiting final approval from the Secretary of Education, which is expected within the next few weeks.
