Lead teacher Ms. Azuree Nichols provided an overview of Scholars Academy.
Ms. Nichols explained that the program exists to serve scholars with academic and/or behavioral challenges that cannot be successfully addressed in classrooms. Scholars needs are met in a smaller classroom setting with individualized, focused attention.
Ms. Nichols supports scholars in grades 5K-4. Scholars are placed in the program based on a combination of MAP scores, teacher recommendation and observation.
K. Caire and D. Davis provided an overview of Prep Year. Prep Year is designed to close learning gaps in math and writing. K. Caire explained that the program focuses on instilling basic learning habits so that scholars are prepared to move forward and shared that scholars in Prep Year at OCS understand what "Time on Task" means to them as individual learners.
M. Hanson asked how One City addresses scholars sleeping in class.
D. Davis replied that One City communicates with families regarding absences, tardies, and sleeping in class.
