Minutes will be approved at the May 24, 2022 meeting.

Facility Tour

Board members and executive staff toured the building to see progress on construction to date.

III. Finance Committee: Discussion and Actions

A.

The March 2022 financials will be on the agenda for the May 24, 2022 board meeting.

March 2022 financials will be reviewed and voted on at the May 24, 2022 regular board meeting.

IV. Introduction of Athletic Director Jeremy Clements and WIAA Proposal for One City Schools

A.

Introduction to Athletic Director Jeremy Clements and Review of Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) Proposal

Board members were introduced to Mr. Jeremy Clements. Mr. Clements has accepted an offer to serve as One City's first Athletic Director. He will join the team on July 5, 2022.

 

Mr. Clements is already engaged in an effort to build a sustainable, engaging, and competitive athletic department at One City Schools.

 

Mr. Clements reviewed the proposal before the board and explained the purpose of applying to the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association.

 

Becoming a member school will allow One City Preparatory Academy (OCPA) to compete against the other 516 senior high schools in Wisconsin, while also granting us the future ability to join a conference and compete within the WIAA tournament series. 

G. Derzon made a motion to submit an application for membership to the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association.
W. Akhtar seconded the motion.
The board VOTED to approve the motion.

Secondary School Planning Updates

Head of Schools Devon Davis talked about the possibility of offering One City teachers and staff a 4 day work week.  

D. Davis explained that scholars will remain in school for 5 days and that the goals around offering a 4 day work week are as follows:

  • To innovate within the education system
  • Create sustainable systems for employees and
  • To increase the pool of interested potential employees

One City Student Enrollment Update for the 2021-22 School Year

M. Ruffin provided a brief update on current enrollment figures:

 

If every available seat is filled, there will be a total of 672 students to be enrolled for 2022-23 school year at One City Schools: 

  • 82 students in Preschool, 2K, 3K and 4K
  • 326 students in Elementary School, 5K-5th grade
  • 264 students in Secondary School, 6th, 9th, and 10th grade

To date, Preschool and Elementary School enrollment is at 100%.

Secondary School stands at:

  • 77.8% for 6th grade
  • 54.2% for 9th grade
  • 28.1% for 10th gradeVP of Family and Community Engagement reported on current enrollment figures and plans to reach out to increase enrollment in grades 6, 9 & 10.

Board members were reminded that the Board of Directors Retreat is scheduled for May 7, from 9:00am-2:30pm at the UW South Madison Partnership building, 2238 S Park St Madison, WI 53713.

 

The next regular meeting of the Board of Directors will be held at 2012 Fisher Street on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, from 4pm-6pm.

VII. Move to Closed Session of the Board of Directors

A.

Move to Closed Session

Members of the Executive Team and several other members of the Board of Directors were unable to attend the meeting. Closed session discussion was therefore postponed until the May 24, 2022 regular board meeting.

B.

Adjourn Meeting

G. Derzon made a motion to adjourn meeting.
W. Akhtar seconded the motion.
The board VOTED to approve the motion.
There being no further business to be transacted, and upon motion duly made, seconded and approved, the meeting was adjourned at 6:00 PM.
