The Board will vote to approve the draft minutes from the August 2023 regular meeting.

Board members will be re-introduced to James Howard. Mr. Howard attended the August meeting as a guest but will be with us this time as interim Chair of the Board, taking the reins from Noble Wray, who has served as Chair for the past 5 years.

Board members will be asked to vote to approve Mr. Howard as Interim Chair, with the plan to vote to approve him as Chair at our May meeting, per our By-laws. 

Mr. Howard has served as Chair of Madison Metropolitan Schools and is currently a a member of the editorial board of the Wisconsin State Journal.

Board members will be introduced to Jerry Johnson, parent of a One City Scholar and potential new parent Board member.

Mr. Johnson will be on the agenda for a vote to approve his appointment to the One City Board at the regular October 2023 meeting.

Board members will review and vote to approve the financial statements from August 2023.

Treasurer Torrey Jaeckle will review the financial statements from August 2023. 

Board members will recognize the contributions of Ms. Chris Hodge and Ms. Linda Allen, who have been instrumental in helping to lay the foundation for One City Schools, and to Ms. Latoya Holiday who has been crucial in in navigating One City through a year of many changes, including our successful advocacy work. 

Chris Hodge and Linda Allen both stepped out of retirement to help establish the foundation of One City Schools. Working first at the preschool and then expanding their reach and their high level of expertise to work with our charter schools, Ms. Hodge and Ms. Allen are two of the reasons that One City functions as it does today. Board members will have this opportunity to thank them and wish them well. 

Ms. Latoya Holiday joined the team in July 2022, and immediately stepped in to her role, helping with advocacy, compliance and the smooth transfer of 9th and 10th grade students to other district or private schools in the winter of 2023. Ms. Holiday has worked closely with our lobbying team, with DPI, and with UW Systems authorizer and attorneys to ensure the renewal of our elementary school charter. 

Board members will thank Noble Wray for his service as Chair of the Board. 

Board members will recognize the many contributions of Noble Wray during his 5 year term as Chair of the One City Schools Board. 

Dr. Wray will remain on the Board as a member and Past Chair. 

One City's CEO Kaleem Caire will present initial plans for hosting the organization's 10th Anniversary Celebration in July 2024 and seek initial Board input and involvement in the planning and design of the event.

Board members will entertain a motion to move to closed session for the final half hour of the Board meeting.

Board members will be asked to vote on the following motion: The Board will move to closed session, according to WI open meeting law, "A meeting may be convened in closed session under one or more of the exemptions provided in s. 19.85:

(f) Considering financial, medical, social or personal histories or disciplinary data of specific persons, preliminary consideration of specific personnel problems or the investigation of charges against specific persons except where par. (b) applies which, if discussed in public, would be likely to have a substantial adverse effect upon the reputation of any person referred to in such histories or data, or involved in such problems or investigations.

The Board will adjourn from closed session, as no vote will be called.
