II. Welcome Captain Mike Hanson 4:05 PM
 

Mike Hanson is a Captain with the Madison Police Department where he has served for over twenty years. Currently, Mike is the Captain of the South District where he works with the community on problem solving issues and community relations

 

As a Captain, Lieutenant and neighborhood officer Mike has been involved in leading numerous community events. Some of those events include Safety Walks, Job Fairs in challenged neighborhoods, federal grants to build trust in the community and reduce crime and most recently a grant to “Wrap Around” services directly into homes to help break the cycle of crime. The “Wrap Around” grant will bring services such as trauma care, AODA issues, housing, employment and more resources to families who have had children spinning in the criminal justice system.

Captain Mike Hanson was introduced via his bio and comments from N. Wray and K. Caire as a potential new member of the Board at the January 25, 2022 regular board meeting. 

 

Board members will be asked to vote to appoint Captain Hanson for a three year term.

Brianna  Stuczynski, Strategic Governance Coach with Board on Track will demonstrate some of the most useful and helpful functions available through Board on Track.

Ms. Stucynski will provide an overview of Board on Track functions, including:
  • How to accept invitations, access meeting materials (current, past and future) from within the platform
  • How to create goals and tasks and track progress
  • How to update your profile, add contact information, manage notifications, file skills & complete a 90 second demographics survey
  • Integrating calendar resources
  • How to contact Board on Track with questions

Leah Lange of Numbers 4 Nonprofits has prepared One City's December 2021 and January 2022 financial statements. 

One City Treasurer and Finance Committee Chair, Torrey Jaeckle will present the statements during the meeting. The Board will discuss and then vote to approve the financial statements. 

 
V. Highlights of a One City Classroom 4:37 PM
  A. Highlights of a One City Classroom - Grade 1 - Sophie Diers FYI Sophie Diers 15 m
   

Each month, the Board will be treated to a presentation by one of One City Schools excellent classroom teachers. Teachers will share what their class has been working on and what they will work on in the coming weeks and months. 

 

This month, we will introduce the board to Sophie Diers, who is in her second year with One City, having taught first grade during the 2020-21 school year. 

Ms. Diers received two degrees in Elementary and Special Education from UW-Madison. She began her teaching career at One City in first grade. In her free time, she loves to spend as much time as she can outside, going hiking, running and on picnics.

One City Board members will discuss and vote on the following resolutions. 

 

One City Schools, Inc. Resolutions Summary

The following resolutions authorize various actions being taken by One City Schools, Inc. for the upcoming New Markets Tax Credit transaction. These actions include the approval of the incorporation of One City Broadway, Inc., the entrance of One City Schools, Inc. into various agreements related to the transaction, and the approval of One City Schools Foundation, Inc.’s amended and restated bylaws.

 

One City Broadway, Inc. Resolutions Summary

These resolutions approve the organization of One City Broadway, Inc. and various actions to be taken by One City Broadway, Inc. for the upcoming New Markets Tax Credit transaction, including One City Broadway, Inc. entering in a loan agreement to obtain the funds needed to construct and rehabilitate the new school building.

  B. One City Student Enrollment Update for the 2021-22 School Year / Marketing Plan for 2022-24 School Year Enrollment FYI M.Ruffin 3 m
   

Vice President of Family and Community Engagement Marilyn Ruffin will provide a brief update on current enrollment and plans for open enrollment which begins in March 2022. 

 

Currently, 225 out of 254 spots available are filled. We are at 88.6% capacity, with 127 applications waitlisted. 

 

Open enrollment begins March 1st, 2022 – March 18th, 2022 ( Enrollment Marketing Plan

We expect a total of 590 students to be enrolled for 2022-23 school year:

326 students in Elementary (4K-5th grades)  and 264 students in OCPA (6th, 9th, 10th grades).

 

One City Open Houses have been and will be held virtually and will be open to the community and prospective families.

Preschool Open Houses (4K & under) were held on February 8th & February 16th, 2022 at 5:30-6:30PM.

 

Elementary Open House dates (5K - 5th grades): one was held on February 10th. One more will be held on February 23rd, 2022 at 5:30-6:30PM.

 

Open Houses for OCPA will be held on March 10 and 16 from 6-7 p.m. and Open Enrollment will take place from April 4 through April 22. 

 

 

 

 

 
  C. Secondary School Planning Updates FYI Devon Davis 3 m
   

Edfest 2022 took place on February 12 and went very smoothly. Along with 14 other area schools, One City led the organization of this event for the public to learn more about school options available in Dane County. 

 

Special thanks to Board Member Catherine Zdeblick for her participation! The Edfest schools will hold a debrief of the event and make plans for next year on February 24.

 

We expect this program to grow in years to come. More information can be found at danecountyschools.org

 
  D. Fundraising and Facility Updates and Capital Campaign Plan Discuss Gordon Derzon, Scott Klug, Salli Martyniak, Kaleem Caire and Gail Wiseman 15 m
   

Kaleem Caire will provide board members with an update on the renovation timeline for the Pleasant T. Rowland Leadership Campus.

 

K. Caire will also update board members on fundraising needs. We must raise $7.5M for our Capital Campaign. Additionally, we must continue to raise money for operations. Our operations fundraising goal for the remainder of the year is $1M and we will need to raise $2.2M for the next fiscal year.

 

Capital Campaign planning committee members Salli Martyniak, Gordon Derzon and Scott Klug will report on plans to move the Capital Campaign forward.

Motion: The Board will adjourn into closed session pursuant to Wisconsin State Statutes 19.85(1)(f) and (g) for the purpose of conferring with the Board's legal counsel, who is rendering oral or written advice concerning strategy to be adopted by the Board with respect to an employee complaint.
