Good News Report
TBC China Tour: Interim Artistic Director Ellie Lin entertained the Board with stories of taking 28 boys to 14 cities, performing 15 times in 28 days.
Texas Dance Conservatory: Director Sheyna Ferraro noted that we have just concluded our second year and are now entering the third year, with for fall enrollment open and classes beginning on August 28th. She expects higher enrollment than last year, based on the fact that enrollment numbers right now are higher than the numbers last year at this time. Sheyna asked the Board for help on two fronts: 1) when you receive an email, forward it to someone who has an interest in dance and 2) on the Facebook page, don't simply LIKE but also SHARE. These two actions will broaden awareness of the Dance Conservatory.
TeSA Back to School Update: Principal Joe Morrow reminded the Board that TeSA has changed from a K-8 facility back to a K-6 facility. As such, teaching positions were shifted and five new teachers were hired.
FWAFA Back to School Update: High School Principal Craig Shreckengast reported that 6 new teachers were hired. The new teachers commented that it was unusual for them to see the students in assembly cheering for their teachers. Middle School Principal Randy Dean reported on campus culture and climate, particularly that all teachers and many administration members attended an 8-hour training in Restorative Discipline during in-service week. President Clint Riley added that Restorative Practices is being added to the TeSA training of teachers and that they also attended the training held at FWAFA. Fine Arts Director Stephen Madrid and Academic Director Gail Hartsfield reported on the new Creative Instruction Lab and changes in the TRIBES curriculum to meld the innovative approach of teaching the arts with the more structured methods of instruction of core courses.
