Vision: To develop globally minded citizens who have the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to effect positive change in our world.
Mission: The GLOBE Academy fosters Global Learning Opportunities through Balanced Education for children of all backgrounds. With a focus on dual-language immersion, an experiential-learning model, and a constructivist approach, GLOBE inspires students to be high- performing lifelong learners equipped to make a positive impact in the world.
Core Values: The GLOBE Academy’s core values are expressed in the acronym, CREST: Community, Respect, Empathy, Sustainability and Trust. These values are expected of the governing board, faculty, staff, parents, and students. They are woven into daily life at GLOBE and incorporated into the curriculum.
 Community: We are inclusive, and we nurture and support one another.

 Empathy: We strive to understand and share the feelings of others.
 Sustainability: We aim to conserve our resources for optimal use in the present and future.

C. Schwenkler called a meeting of the Academic Committee of The GLOBE Academy to order on Friday Jan 13, 2023 at 10:02 AM.

A.

Updates and highlights to present to Board on January 30th

  • C. Blunt & P. Noble will present on LC & UC updates.
  • Lower Campus: Lunar New Year recap & Black History Month preview
  • Upper Campus: Lunar New Year, Science Fair, etc.
  • Launched a pilot Coding class (7th grade)
  • Recognition by French government for program excellence grades 1-5: https://www.labelfranceducation.fr/en
  • UC professional development centered on Vision of Teaching Excellence (different approaches to teaching vocabulary) 
  • We opted to get our money from county for Titles II & IV; PD opportunities (Responsive classrooms); end of math curriculum training in March 
  • New math curriculum engaging, kids talking about math, more flexibility for teachers
  • PTCC suggested funding a professional development In March re: exceptional students population

Comparison of 2022 to 2019 data

 

  • MS content mastery breakdown (2nd group of 8th graders); 5th & 8th take science / Social studies, everyone takes ELA & math. Overall this is the entire school’s performance 
  • Compared to 2019: MS overall scores better/same 
  • Compared to 2019: ES overall scores dropped (high 90’s to mid 80’s) - different group of students, COVID impact
  • Focus on 1st column within subgroups breakdown. This data provides economically disadvantaged & ESOL learners & students with IEP's.
  • Numbers have changed: more ED, more ESOL students in 2022 vs. 2019
  • What can we do to double down on our efforts to reach and support economically disadvantaged students and English language learners?

Academic Committee to brainstorm ideas to present at June Board meeting on areas of challenge and possible solutions.
