Vision, Mission and Core Values
Vision: To develop globally minded citizens who have the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to effect positive change in our world.
Mission: The GLOBE Academy fosters Global Learning Opportunities through Balanced Education for children of all backgrounds. With a focus on dual-language immersion, an experiential-learning model, and a constructivist approach, GLOBE inspires students to be high- performing lifelong learners equipped to make a positive impact in the world.
Core Values: The GLOBE Academy’s core values are expressed in the acronym, CREST: Community, Respect, Empathy, Sustainability and Trust. These values are expected of the governing board, faculty, staff, parents, and students. They are woven into daily life at GLOBE and incorporated into the curriculum.
Community: We are inclusive, and we nurture and support one another.
Respect: We treat ourselves and each other with kindness and dignity.
Empathy: We strive to understand and share the feelings of others.
Sustainability: We aim to conserve our resources for optimal use in the present and future.

Call the Meeting to Order
D. Reynolds called a meeting of the Academic Committee of The GLOBE Academy to order on Friday Jan 8, 2021 at 2:03 PM.

Approve Minutes
J. Limor made a motion to approve the minutes from Academic Committee Meeting on 12-11-20.
S. Daniel seconded the motion.
The committee VOTED to approve the motion.
II. Academic
A.
Supporting target-language acquisition
- Sandra Daniel met with other schools to discuss how virtual and hybrid learning models were accomplished, shared materials including video footage of teaching in innovative format with GLOBE teachers to prepare for hybrid transition.
- Discussed prior trainings and activities for parents
- Discussed ways to help parents receive additional feedback from teachers with respect to student language acquisition while learning virtually.
- Discussed importance of supporting students who may need additional assistance (including students with special needs) with target language learning.
Next steps:
- Formed small committee to discuss strategies for supporting students who need additional assistance with target language learning. Christina Catinella, Karen Padron, and Laura Sum will meet to brainstorm ideas to share at the next session.
- Drew & Sandra to meet/discuss ideas for parent support trainings and other activities to support parents with student language learning.
B.
GLOBE efforts on race-conscious curricula
Drew Reynolds proposed postponing this discussion to February meeting to allow additional time to discuss.
