Sidewalk project

Committee looked at various use concepts for the entry space of the school.  Current concepts will add 10 feet to the sidewalk and take 10 feet away from the lawn.  Three renderings (included in the packet) were shared.  The third concept was universally preferred. Other comments on drawings

  •  mix in some natural materials to breakup the stone benches?
  • Trees lined at the curb instead of in toward the school (option 2 preferred vs 3) and we don’t want trees on the circle side
  • cross walk from the nurse side door (opposite side from ramp) to the stairs and parking area
  • trees in from the curb by approximately 30” to allow for snow removal and car door opening the full length of the curb
  • Retaining wall corner to be as small as can be but still serve as frost barrier
  • Can we think about seasonal planting – things that look pretty in fall and winter not just summer and spring.
  • Pay attention to runoff/ drainage as we are repaving.  We may want to fix the drainage issue in the grass circle in the future but do not want to redo what we are doing now.
  • Is there a way (with plantings or different type of seating) to deter students from stepping on the bench and into the planting area near the nurses corner.  We want students to use the cross walks and stop going out into the road via that corner
  • We were not planning to irrigate so we need to keep that in mind when planting
