Call the Meeting to Order

J. Ray called a meeting of the board of directors of Lumen Public School to order on Thursday Jan 19, 2023 at 2:31 PM.

Approve Minutes

L. McDonald made a motion to approve the minutes from Board Meeting on 12-15-22.
T. O'Sullivan seconded the motion.
The board VOTED unanimously to approve the motion.

II. Finance

A.

Monthly Financial Report

Revenue is coming in as expected. 

Financial report shared by Jared. 

Expenditures - right at or below on all areas. 

 

III. Consent Agenda

A.

Approve December Payroll & AP #1775- 1799 & Policies and Procedures 2145, 3225

T. O'Sullivan made a motion to Approve Consent Agenda.
A. Estes seconded the motion.
The board VOTED unanimously to approve the motion.

IV. Updates

A.

ED Updates

Shauna 

- Update - Glow's request to expand their space.  Adding to occupy 726 on Riverside. 

Delay payment on the rent until Glow is profiting on the space.  Can't access the grant money until September. And priority to lumen students. The hope is eventually will support in making Glow 

- Julie - Student Support Specialist - Student internships - looking to move forward with every student having the opportunity to have an internship.  Need sites. March 9th 7:30-8:30am. Dinner hosted following week for community event to talk about internship.  1 day a week - 1/2 day or full day.  Will have day of the week nailed down by meetings. 

- Gonzaga - Lumen has a fellow through Gonzaga. Looking into having a partnership for mentors.

Student/ Staff Sharing Time

- Student update - Brayden - started in October, feels very supported by Lumen.

- RN at Lumen - Teacher for 13 years, Arrange appointments here in the the building.  Teaching a class once a week - prenatal education to post baby.  Empowering students to lead education.  

 

Melissa Petty Update

 - Retention - Re-visiting strategic goals. 1-1 meetings with staff each month.  

- 6 new students coming in at semester 

- More on ramp of our culture camp - supporting new students 

- Data - Next month deep dive into Academics 

- Goals - Drug and Alcohol information - reducing harm 

V. Committee Updates

A.

Development Committee

Il-Lumen-ate the Night - Combined fundraiser with Glow - split proceeds. 

Committee will start meeting in February - get the ball rolling for next year - planning for Spring 2024 

 

Sip and Celebrate - End of the Summer - Donors in the past and/or potential donor. 

 

Final numbers of Fundraiser next month on the agenda.

Moment of the Month

Our goals and expectations mirror the school's mission. 

 

Norm & expectation - Relationship first - working to build community and trust. 

Lumen - Belonging - Everyone! Students and Staff / Restorative relationships 

Staff and students can feel safe and connected. They can advocate for themselves. 

 

Culture of the Board needs to reflect culture of Lumen.

Advisory Board Update

Feedback - Belonging.  

Listening to student voices. 

What is working - what is not?

Advisory committee to advise the work here. 

Hear from students to inform school's practice. 

Intentionally Board and staff members will not be on the committee - safe place to share. 

Grant to give students stipend for participating.
