Committee Updates

Topic:  Academic Reporting

Rosalynne shared questions to focus on the following learning effectiveness strategies (which support teaching and learning throughout the year). This helps the board to understand the strategies and to ask questions about how progress is measured and what interventions might be needed.

  1. Progress learning - bank of standard aligned questions used to create assessments; can also develop benchmark assessments; a tool to do school wide benchmarks and teachers use in their classroom to monitor assessments. Does not include writing assessments. The school uses the data to look at individual students and individual standards.  School wide assessments happen in October and February.  Teachers can assess weekly in the classroom.
  2. Varsity Tutors - Use I-ready data to compare student growth. How they perform in August and how they perform in March.
  3. Data Chats - The conversations that home room teachers have with students before benchmark assessments.
  4. High Target Students (MTSS Interventions - created small groups of no more than 5 students)

Progress learning most effective is showing if students are making progress towards being proficient on the milestone. Patrice did not see a correlation between I-Ready and performance on the GA Milestone tests.

Benchmark Assessments:

  1. I Ready (skills) - (Timing: August, December, & March)
  2. Progress Learning (standards) - (School wide timing: October/February) (Need to confirm timing)

Patrice will create a dashboard to share with the committee.

Follow up question from Rosalynne:  Does ASA administer GA Milestone Practice Tests.
